This is a view of life in Havana as seen through the eyes of a young 'habanero' who expresses the problems and concerns of his generation. Excellent.

Great music, great lyrics. It is mainly a socio-political critic to the cuban gov, and to the corrupted and twisted society they have created, the lack of all types and basic freedom of the human being. By the way, this musician, lives out of Cuba almost all the time, "working".

This is a beautiful album, lots of poetry in every song and with a beautiful dedication (a mi santa madre que esta en el cielo) in English it will be something like "to my beloved mother, she is in heaven". Also listen "Como los peces" I think his best work.

This is one of the best Cd I've ever heard. It's my favorite along with his other CD "Como los peces", check that one out too. This album is a sociopolitical trip around Cuba and their peoples dream. Just for curiosity you have to listen to it, it's the real diamond of my collection.

If you're a fan of Trova music then this is a must have for lovers of this genre. Not only is he talented singer/songwriter but he's not afraid to write about what it's like to live and work in Cuba. It's a shame he doesn't perform live here in the states because he would be one talented musician I would love to see live! Unlike his other contemporaries like Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanes he speaks to a younger generation of poets and songwriters with a voice to carry for years to come. Viva la Trova en Carlos Varela!

Varela:

Represent the voice of the youngs in the 80's and 90's in cuba. I see in his soungs my entere life in cuba. and now when I hear this CD I went to cuba, I feel in havana, in a Theatre singing with him in the middle of the nigt.

Today, young Cubans have one of their own to speak for them. Their ambitions, dreams, aspirations and desire for change can be heard in the voice of their Dylan; Carlos Varela. I was fortunate enough to see him perform live in concert.Most, if not all, songs contained in "Monedas al Aire" are a literal manifestation of young Cuba today and how they view their lives and the world around them. Understanding Varela's music and message is understanding today's young Cuba.

Varela wins your heart from the first song on this CD. Through out the CD, Varela expresses how he views Cuba, its people, and its political situation. With a Nueva Trova style, if you are a fan of Silvio Rodriguez or Pablito Milanes, you'll definetly love Carlos Varela. The melody on the CD varies from slow beat songs to fast beats, almost rock and roll style. The best way to enjoy the CD is to understand the lirics of the songs in it, so understanding Spanish is a must. If you don't, it will be okay all of the songs have a translation on the cover pamphlet. Don't look any further, this CD is a must have if you like the Nueva Trova movement.

This was the first CD that I bought from Carlos Varela. I had the opportunity of seing performing alive in CUBA, I do not like other NUEVA TROVA members like Silvio Rodriguez or Pablo Milanes, becausse I think they are not good critics, but this guy is the bomb. This is a you MUST HAVE
