Figured the negative reviews were just sour grapes. Should have paid attention and now Ive got a broken rack and a goofed up wall.

First lets start with the rack, it is NOT shiny chrome/stainless with grey hook covers. It is painted dull matte grey and the paint was scuffed from box wear over about 30% of its area. The wood shelf looked bad like it was a recycled grade school desktop complete with scuffs and marks which wold not wipe off. The grey covers pictured are instead a garish red that would be more at home in the garage instead of mounting a fancy road bike in the living room where this was to go. So to sum up it looks like crap all the way around.

Since I ignored my better judgement I decided to install it anyway just to have some place to get the bike out of the way. Should have been simple, drill two holes into the drywall and studs and secure with 2 included wood screws. One screw went in ok though it was a chore not to strip the head as it was a very cheap and soft screw. Second screw had the head TWIST RIGHT OFF as I got it close to seated. This was using a hand screw driver in pre drilled holes before anyone thinks it was some impact driver or trying to gorilla hands it into an undrilled stud.

How cheap does a screw have to be to break off from being twisted into place like that? I guess it was a blessing as now all I have is a broken screw that is sunk 2 inches into my wall, protruding 1mm out of the drywall where it will be impossible to remove without cutting the wall open to get more purchase on the shaft and then patching the drywall and repainting. Think I will just file it down and paint it instead so I dont look at it and get pissed all the time.

This review may keep you from damaging your bike.

The rack is a good-looking rack with a unique and smart design concept. Be aware that the color of the wood is a little lighter than it appears on screen.

I installed the rack by following the included instructions to the letter. About ten minutes after I had installed it, rested my 23lb bike on the rack and placed my girlfriend's bike on the ground beneath, the rack popped off the wall, bringing my bike to a crash on top of the other bike. You can imagine my surprise and anger when less than half of the advertised max weight load caused this.

So if you like the design of this rack enough to buy it, be aware that there are two ways to avoid this trouble. One is to make sure you can screw the rack into studs. The second installation option is to use the included drywall anchors (which I did). If you use the anchors, do not drill 5/16" holes like the instructions say. You want to drill a much smaller hole and hammer the anchors in so that it's a tight fit. I think this will prevent the rack from coming out of the wall.

My only other complaint is that the bar that rests on the wall (between the wood and the vertical metal bar was slightly bent from the manufacturer. Overall, the rack seems shoddily made. Buyer beware but evidently not everyone has these problems.

I'm kinda surprised at all these negative reviews. I've had a perfectly fine experience. I'm only docking a star because the need to anchor this into a stud does limit its utility somewhat dramatically if you're keeping your bike in your home.

After returning a different rack that didn't do it for me, I ordered this one, and it has been a solid fixture in my home over the past 340-some-odd days. I didn't do anything special to install it. I found a stud in the wall, drilled pilot holes into that, then screwed the folding rack into place. I attached the cables, tossed my helmet onto the shelf, along with a light and some other accessories, and then I draped my bike over the obvious place. Completely uneventful, and I've been using it for just shy of a year now with no problems. I keep my bike elevated above my wife's with this, so that we have more room to live in (we have to keep our bikes in our apartment). Met our needs nicely.

I have one & I'm getting another! Very good looking bike rack. I keep my pump & water bottle on the shelf. Easy to mount. Keeps the weight off my tires. Nice product.

I purchased this rack to hang my road bike (it's carbon and very light). Within two weeks, the ball bearing at the end of one of the ropes came off and it wasn't fixable. I tried tying the wire around the hook where the ball used to slide in, but it wouldn't stay. I ended up throwing it away and purchasing a different rack. I would not recommend this product.
