Best of 2003!,
By TheDreamerAtNoon (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Money Money 2020 (Audio CD)
I just purchased the re-release from the Network on Reprise...now obviously, you must be living under a rock not to realize that 3 of the members of this band are Green Day. If not, here's the line up:
Billie Joe Armstrong = Fink Mike Dirnt = Van Gough Tre Cool = The Snoo Two other bandmates "Z" and "Captain Underpants" are supposedly members of Devo. Regardless if you enjoy Green Day's music or not, this cd is complete different than what you would expect from the guys. IT ROCKS! Very 80s! 1. Joe Robot 8/10 - Very Devo lol Lyrics: "It has a beginning. It has an end. It's a beautiful story, but it's pretend." 2. Transistors Gone Wild 9/10 - Lyrics: "My brain is melting and it smells like a volcano" 3. Reto 7/10 - Starts off with a drum intro and sounds very similar to Devo in my opinion. Lyrics: "...Knowing where we're going. Where do we go?..." 4. Supermodel Robots 10/10 - Lyrics: "...Not quite a femme bot, but almost an alien..." 5. Money Money 2020 10/10 - My favourite song on the album! Lyrics: "...International, interracial, confrontational inter-rival...money money 2020..." 6. Spike 7/10 - Song narrated by Billie Joe "Fink" about a guy named Spike who is calling a dealer because he needs a fix. Very funny! 7. Love And Money 7/10 - very short song only 1:22 Lyrics: "...On a take at the zoo, on the make sniffing zoo. On the bind, in your mind. Run away, you're okay. Then you crack..." 8. Right Hand-A-Rama 6/10 - very funny lyrics! Lyrics: "...I don't know why, I don't know why, it sure feels good most every time...Pamela and her five sisters are giving me a mad case of nasty blisters..." 9. Roshambo 10/10 - interesting song with a combination of vocals, breathing, and groans even lol in the background. Lyrics: "...I don't believe I search the truth. I don't believe in everything I read. I don't believe in promises. All I really believe in is you..." 10. Hungry Hungry Models 10/10 - This sounds like Tre Cool singing, very funny song...the theme reminds me of "Fashion Victim" from "Warning". 11. Spastic Society 7/10 12. X-Ray Hamburger 8/10 - interesting mix of Billie Joe's vocals and a girl speaking in the background. Lyrics: "X-ray hamburger is you" 13. Teenagers From Mars 8/10* - Lyrics: "...We need no introduction to mass destruction...teenagers from mars and we don't care..." 14. Hammer Of The Gods 9/10* - Lyrics: "Do you feel? Do you lie?v You're a ten inside your heart, turning life into art...projecting you into a god..." *Bonus tracks

Network a.k.a. Green Day's Newest Material,
By uberRadrocker (Tacoma, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Money Money 2020 (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
It's a mystery who these guys are......no it's not. They're Green Day. Money Money 2020 is saturated with B.J. Armstrong's vocal talents (as well as his speaking/oratorical voice on the song,"Spike"). This album can best be described as post-punk 80s Devo-ish new wave music (if that makes sense). It's bizarre listening to this album for the first time when you already know it's Green Day while you expect their typical pop-punk thrashings and strummings. But after you get used to the sound and listen to the lyrics it becomes an extremely entertaining album that is especially suited to hardcore GD fans. The whole The Network fascade is hilarious. The world's favorite East-Bay trio shows off its melodious talent better than ever on this venture and it's a must-buy for anyone who absolutely loves Green Day.

The Future of Rock and Roll,
By Alexa S (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Money Money 2020 (Audio CD)
Green Day this, Devo that--it doesn't matter who these mysterious musicians are under their masks, Money Money 2020 combines 70's punk and 80's new wave with something entirely of its own to create a flawless album. The lyrics are filled with pop culture references and social commentary, and the tone of the songs varies from the fun ("Supermodel Robots", "Right-Hand-A-Rama") to the bizarre ("Spastic Society", "Transistors Gone Wild"). But it's not without its moment of bare honesty in "Roshambo", the closest thing the Network come to having a tender love song. Money Money 2020 is not out of place in a rave, a mosh pit, a headset or your basement, and these songs are so catchy that once you finally pull yourself away from putting the album on repeat, you'll be singing the words all day. For any fan of punk (or its pop-punk cousin), new wave, or electronica--or, even better, all of the above--Money Money 2020 is a must have.

This ISN'T GREEN DAY!!,
By
This review is from: Money Money 2020 (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
So, some people may have figured out that green day members are in the Network... good for you, you deserve a cookie. What I don't understand is why people are expecting them to sound like green day... this is The Network, NOT green day... if they wanted to have the same sound, they'd call themselves green day again. It wouldnt make much sense to change their name yet keep the same sound... This album is awesome, this new sound is amazing, and the videos are unbelievable. In my opinion, whoever made those videos should be making more tight videos for other bands. Those who gave this album 1 star because it doesn't sound enough like green day should be ashamed of themselves.

All you have to do is listen to the first track or two to understand this is Green Day + 2 Other folks. Who are those two other folks, likely two members of the great DEVO. Some people are making a big deal out of this. Me? I am for other reasons. Its a new wave album in the year 2003, and to me the fact that someone thought to somewhat bring it back makes me a happy camper. All of the tracks are marvelous, as I have listening to this over and over again, and enjoying it more and more. Its great to sit and listen to and its even BETTER to listen to when driving in your car. I applaud Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool. I bow down to the two members of Devo (for I don't know which two members yet) and I bow down even more to Devo in general for there great influence. I am really excited about this album, and I think its absoultly wonderful. Thank you very much to all those listed before for making such a wonderful thing.

Great Combination of Devo & Green Day,
By
This review is from: Money Money 2020 (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful blend of two great bands. It is as if Green Day has infused its young blood into the members of Devo, and the result is an album that captures the energy & feel of Devo's earlier efforts ("Q: Are we not men?", "Duty now for the future", and "Devo Live: The Mongoloid Years"). If you are a Green Day fan and you love this album, I think you would also love the above mentioned Devo albums.

New Wave Brilliance,
By Ben Dugan "Ben Dugan" (Flying Monkey Killer) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Money Money 2020 (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
Of all the CD's I have ourchased over the last few months(and there have been quite a few), The Network is pretty much the only one that is really good.If you are expecting this to sound like Green Day, then you are going to be sadly dissapointed. If anything, its is more reminiscent of Devo, with melodic keyboard parts and saracsstic lyrics. All twelve songs on here are insanely melodic, and with a running time of 27 minutes, its a quick, easy disc to listen too. The CD also comes with a DVD with DIY videos for most of the songs. Though the quality isn't what your used to seeing on MTV, all of these videos are good, and unlike a lot of DVD's that come with CD's, this one isn't a throwaway. So, if you are expecting this record to sound like Green Day, then you should probably save your fifteen bucks for the next GD record. But if you are a fan of melodic 80's new wave the way it was meant to be played, then you should defintley check out the Network.

Green day goes robotic,

Green day goes new wave and creates a lot of unforgettable songs. Short punky sounding new wave songs that have influences that range from the cure , devo, to green day themselves. Mike Dirnt aka "Van Gough" sings most of the songs but Mr. Armstrong sings a couple as "Fink" and even Tre aka "the Snoo" sings "Hungry Hungry". Great album everyone should listen to it. all the songs are amazing.

Best release so far this year!!!,

If you enjoy Green Day you will probably like this too. You may not, but don't blame The Network, blame you parents for giving birth to a child with a tin ear. It's my understanding that The Network are members from Green Day and Devo incognito. The disguise is a good way for bands under contract to branch out and release new material that may not fit their current mold. This record is a perfect blending of smooth Turkish and American tobaccos. Instead of buying from here I would head on over to (Billie Joe's) Adeline Records site and help out the label, plus purchase it for less markup. No mark up!!!! ROCK!!
