About the Author

Siegfried Finser was a Waldorf schoolteacher, managed a division of Xerox, and was Director of Executive Development worldwide for ITT. He has consulted with many large corporations and was president of the Threefold Educational Foundation, treasurer of the Anthroposophical Society in America, and founder of the Rudolf Steiner Foundation (RSF), where he continues on the Board of Trustees. He has a BA from Rutgers University and an MA in Educational Psychology from New York University. He lectures frequently on money and the healing potential in monetary transactions. Mr. Finser lives in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and Delray Beach, Florida, with his wife of fifty-one years, a teacher and therapeutic eurythmist. He has two sons, an adopted daughter, a foster son and daughter and seven grandchildren.

This book is perfect for those of us who want to spend, invest, and give in ways that will build a more compassionate, creative, and sustainable reality.

The book begins with a careful definition of the three types of transactions and their essential function. The author traces the evolution of human consciousness over time. He, then, he uses his involvement with RSF, the Rudolf Steiner Foundation, as an experiment with a new paradigm of lending. The book ends with some practical exercises to encourage mindfulness around money. The chapters are bite-sized, and I found this helpful. The thinking is so new that it invites reflection along the way. Spiritual values and money are not just compatible -- they must be integrated if we truly wish to bring positive change to our world. This quote from the book summarizes some of the key messages:

"Buying/selling draws human beings into the material world and stimulates the whole world to produce what people desire. Lending/borrowing draws human beings into connection with one another, enabling people to accomplish their intentions. It makes the world into a community of striving human beings. Giving/receiving entices the spirit into material existence and can elevate human beings to greater development, wisdom, and love in shaping the future. Based on my observations and experiences, I have concluded that these three transactions are rooted in the architecture of the universe. They contain all the ingredients we need to become healing forces in the life of society. These three transactions are all we need to transform the world, unfold healthy relationships, and reconnect with the active spirit of our time."

Read this book! If everyone did, we could build a collective consciousness that could re-build the collapsed economy from loving consciousness and attentive participation. Chapter by brief, clean, and charming chapter, the author gives the reader good pictures of the quality of money, of transactions, and of life. The book goes quickly and the images run deep. You will know much more when you are done reading than you knew at the beginning! Complex ideas are made accessible without any compromise of the purity of the concepts.
