2.0 out of 5 stars I would not recommend
I was looking for a book to help guide me and my husband to teach my child about allowance and money management. I had no idea that this is a religious based book. I am a Christian, but I don't believe that God is the answer to money questions. Furthermore, there is not any straight forward, helpful information. This book is mostly just vague ideas. I would not...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful Reading!, August 22, 2002
This review is from: Money Doesn't Grow on Trees: Teaching Your Kids the Value of a Buck! (Paperback)
This has proved to be an absolutely wonderful read, and it has loads of helpful hints, suggestions, etc for teaching your children, and parents themselves about handling finances responsibly. My husband could not believe I was reading a book about teaching financial responsibility, I kept laughing out loud. I felt like the author and her family had invited me into their lives. Mrs. Kay and her family share so many wonderfully funny life lessons about their money adventures and learning experiences that I feel like I should send her a thank you note for allowing me to share in their lives. I feel like I've gotten to know all her beautiful children through these encounters.

There are suggestions on how to teach your children to avoid impulse buying (okay, I really need this lesson myself), setting up simple budgets and more. There are game ideas to teach younger children about money and plenty of ideas to share with older children on raising their own money to work towards goals.

I would heartily recommend this book whether you want a book to help you with teaching your children about being a good steward with their money, or if you just want to read a funny book that shares a family's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars She's done it again!, March 17, 2003

This review is from: Money Doesn't Grow on Trees: Teaching Your Kids the Value of a Buck! (Paperback)
Ellie is a gold mine of information regarding saving money and spending what we have wisely. I have 3 children and was pulling my hair out trying to teach them that the way to earning money is not by holding your hand out to daddy. I have read this book more times than I can count and have found and implemented many ideas. My 13 year old daughter is not very fond of her actually having to do something now but she can't hold her hand out forever. We have to remember that what we teach them now greatly effects their future. To have anything when you become an adult, you have to work and be on a budget. With the ideas Ellie has in her books, you can teach your children now. I don't want to see my children have a rough time when they are older because I gave them whatever they wanted when they were younger. I have noticed since my 7 year old has been working for that "I gotta have it toy", he takes care of them better and doesn't forget where he puts it.

Buying Ellie's books has been the best investment I could make to our budget. Thank's Ellie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and fun! An easy read!, January 25, 2002
By
This review is from: Money Doesn't Grow on Trees: Teaching Your Kids the Value of a Buck! (Paperback)
Ellie is such a gifted author! As someone who doesn't usually like to read self-help books, I must say that this book has humor and real life illustrations that keep me going. I didn't want to put it down! Her ideas for training your children how to manage money are so helpful and realistic. And the best part about it is that she weaves in all the principles we adults need to know for our own financial management, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars money doesn't grow on trees, December 28, 2001

This review is from: Money Doesn't Grow on Trees: Teaching Your Kids the Value of a Buck! (Paperback)
A great book to get you thinking about how you relate to your kids and how to begin teaching them about money management. Ellie Kay is a chocolate loving, coffee drinking, and deeply religious military wife who is a mother of five. "Money Doesn't Grow On Trees" is a fun, practical book with stories from the family of the author. Throughout the book runs a theme that saving money is a skill that you can teach your children, not only so that you and your children can avoid being crushed by consumer debt, but also so that you will have money to help others in need. Ellie Kay tells you how she does it, and how you can do it. "Money Doesn't Grow On Trees" is a fascinating read, so make sure that you budget at least five hours when you get started - you will not want to put the book down!

It's very nice to meet you here. I'm Jackie Ho from
Hong Kong. I'm just reading the book `Money Doesn't Grown On Trees'. It's really very useful. Actually I'm going to design and launch a class of `Money Education' to kids and teens. I want to tell them what the money is and teach them how to manage money, and also, make them more interests in math, logic, reading
comprehension, etc. This book gives me lots of ideas.
Thank you so much, Ms. Kay.

Once again , Ellie has made saving money, and sharing with others a blessing. You not only share with people you dont know but with the help of this book with those you do. What better way to equip your children for their financial future, than to have a jewel of a book like this one. Not only has Ellie made a huge hit with this one of a kind book. I was able to see her on Power Lunch on CNBC. She was awesome, sharing with the World her newest addition to the family of Financial Brillance. Way to Go Ellie !!! Look forward to your next Book.

Outstanding book! In this day when prices are going up and times are difficult, this book will assist in training your children to be financially responsible. Not to mention how it reminds us of what we, as parents, need to do to live by example. Ellie's funny stories had me laughing from page 1 and her practical advice had me implementing the ideas immediately. I highly recommend you read this book; you'll laugh your way to financially responsible children.

5.0 out of 5 stars The RED Abercrombie or the BLUE Abercrombie?, January 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Money Doesn't Grow on Trees: Teaching Your Kids the Value of a Buck! (Paperback)
My 20 year old son recently was stressing to me his ability to make choices with his money. "Honey," I said, "your idea of making choices with your money is 'Do I buy the blue Abercrombie or the red Abercrombie?'" I got this book to use on my 13-year-old. Maybe it's not too late!

Thanks Ellie for some great pointers and more than a few laughs along the way!
