I've never seen a better book about money for kids.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Money $Ense for Kids (Paperback)
I have to tell you I was so impressed with this book; I was practically quivering; I read the first 30 pages and I don't think I've ever seen anything better. I could take that book and teach with it for a year. It would serve as a base to go in just tons of directions: math, history, just everything. I was really impressed.

Author's thoughts,

Moms, Dads, grandparents and kids have all sent me emails to the book's companion website, www.kidsfinance.com. I am delighted to have refreshed the first edition; this is the 2nd ed (2004). Revisit the book for updated features of our bills and coins, plus a comparison of the three major stock exchanges. In this edition we look at three different companies: eBay, Nike and Berkshire Hathaway. I encourage you to email your thoughts and questions; I look forward to hearing from you.

A lively, engaging book on a topic that won't go out of style: Money Sense for Kids! helps youngsters develop the financial savvy to be smart consumers and wise investors. The book is filled with amusing "case studies" and fun reinforcement activities that explain money concepts in age-appropriate ways. An excellent gift for budding entrepreneurs and piggy-bank prisoners alike, Money Sense for Kids! should be on everyone's bookshelf!

An "EXCELLANT" very informative plain english book. At 3/4 of a century old I learned details about our currency for the first time. Very interesting and it is a "good to go" on other subjects.

This book might be intended for kids but if an adult doesn't know yet the basic information about money as it is presented thoroughly in this highly informational edition written by Hollis Page Harman, the adult is still a kid ! And it is OK for an adult to read and get informed on money, how to get it and how to have more of it, because by taking the "Kids" out of the title of this book, it could easily pass for an average adult educational tool.
The book provides plenty of information about money - from the brief biographies of presidents and the explanations of historical moments and landmarks portrayed on the printed bills to the meanings of important messages of the seals. The book dwells on how to get money various ways, save it and invest it. There are plenty of explanation of stocks, bond and mutual funds, and how to manipulate them for the most profit. There is also great explanation on banks and their basic procedures such as opening an account, depositing and use of ATM. There is reference to plenty of additional information at the end of the book such as internet links to websites and additional books of money-related content. This book is great for kids because the information is provided in short passages and is complimented with playful illustrations and interesting attention grabbers such as To-Do Lists at the end of every chapter. There is a part in the book that is dedicated to games involving money so the kids could learn how to use calculator and learn how to count money. This is a great book to have in the home library of a child who is obviously past his 1st grade but also, this book should be a must-read for an adult who didn't get a chance to learn the basics of money and it's management. |
