Only Six Designs - All Easily Found Elsewhere,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Money Folding (My Favorite Origami) (Paperback)
Money Folding by Florence Temko is hard pressed to be called an origami instruction book. It's more like an origami instruction flyer. There are literally only 11 pages of instructions - plus 1 page of introduction, and 2 pages of tips at the end.
It's not that I mind a short book - but with it only holding 6 designs total, the price normally seen on this leaflet is rather high. Not only that, but Florence then came out with a second "book" with only 6 more designs in it, equally high priced. It would have been far more fair to provide (gasp) 12 designs in a book, and have it actually have enough pages to give it a slight thickness. So, that all being said, exactly what do you get in Money Folding? You get some of the most basic shapes. You get a tree, a heart, a duck, a shirt, a butterfly and a ring. I agree that these six shapes are cool ones, and come in useful for card making and gift giving. However, the main issue is that all of these are classic designs, especially the ring and the duck. This means that you could go on Google and find all of these instructions for free. The illustrations are reasonably good, done with drawn versions of US dollar bills so you can tell if you are folding the items properly. The instructions are reasonably clear. If you really need one of these designs, and really want it in book form, then perhaps the cost of the book plus shipping will be worth it to you. However, I personally would go either with one of the larger origami money books where you get far more bang for the buck - or use the web and print out the information for free. I don't feel right paying someone so much money for so few designs.

So So Money Folding,
By Brian Goetting (Phippsburg, Maine United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Money Folding (My Favorite Origami) (Paperback)
I was disappointed with the book. "The Buck Book" was a lot better investment, and the instructions were clear as well as humerous. The "Money Folding" book left out some key steps, which made it difficult to follow. Ex: The shirt: The bill has to be turned around to make the collar. This was never explained. The butterfly requires using a pipe cleaner to complete the butterfly. Who carries around pipe cleaners in their pockets? Bottom line, your money could be better spent if you want to learn the art of folding money.

A Major Disappointment,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Money Folding (My Favorite Origami) (Paperback)
I've never felt the need to write a review until today...after waiting anxiously for this book, at first appearance I could not believe that the only folds in the book are the ones you see pictured on the books cover. And if that weren't disappointing enough, the directions were lacking a few of the steps required to make the designs. I am amazed that someone can actually get a book like this one published...big waste of money and I'm sending it back!

Fun timekiller,

I got this book right before a three-day road trip. Whenever I was the passenger I would practice from the book, learning to fold money into hearts, rings, cute little t-shirts. I totally loved it. Plus, whenever we went out to eat, I could leave the cute folded money as the tip. I think this is a good book. My copy got ruined so I bought another one. Definitely worth it. I don't understand the complaints of these other reviewers.

The Magic Wand Is Worth the $7,
By CoolGrandma Jo (Las Vegas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Money Folding (My Favorite Origami) (Paperback)
The directions are well done, but this booklet "Money Folding " is just that---a BOOKLET. It has only 6 projects which are shown on the beautifully photographed cover. If you don't think that the 6 projects on the cover are worth the $7 price tag then you will be disappointed. (Add postage to that price if you aren't wise enough to group your purchases to get free shipping). I bought it because I loved the heart shaped "magic" wand on the cover. The wand is fabulous and has been a big hit with the kids who have received them from me. I would have paid $7 for just the wand directions but I also liked all of the 6 projects. As another poster reported, I also use a folded money project to leave as a tip in restaurants. BTW--I bought "Money Folding 2" by the same author because I liked the flower in a pot project on the cover. I was not as thrilled with that project as I was with the wand but I learned how to do it and then passed the booklet onto a school teacher.
