Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Welcome to the easiest way I've ever found to make extra money in your spare time, buying and reselling good quality used books online. This is a simple business anyone can make money at, so long as you have a computer, high-speed internet access, about $200-$500 to stock up on inventory and supplies, plus an open mind willing to follow a few simple suggestions, tips and techniques that make top profits earning cash for books!

You'll also need the want-to to earn this easy extra money. This is no get-rick-quick business. It is a simple, home-based business anyone can start in their spare time, and the only limitations you'll have is the amount of effort you put into finding, listing and shipping good used books to eager buyers on the #1 book selling website on the planet.

I've distilled everything I've learned that works in the real world -- and the things that haven't worked like I thought they would -- to help anyone with a good idea start making a nice part-time income fast.
From my experience, selling good used books, slightly listened to music CDs, and once-watched, forever-shelved DVDs are three of the easiest items to uncover in the smallest town, and recycle as a steady online business for easy cash. Further, you can make good money reselling unwanted college textbooks, so long as you buy them right. This book shows you how.
Take this to any level you want: Perhaps you only need to clean out your library, make more room in your home or basement, and raise a little cash. This book will help you price your personal books and digital CDs and DVDs at the best prices, so the small price will more than pay for itself many times over.
Or you could plow your profits back into more inventory if you want to expand to a larger audience, and earn a sizeable monthly income, all in about 1-2 hours a day, doing easy work, and getting steady direct deposits into your checking account. If you want to, you can build your own home-based business selling used books, working from home, all in your spare time. It's all up to you.
Get your copy today. With this Kindle book you get everything you need to get started making good profits from old used books, music CDs, instructional DVDs and college textbooks.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's all about margins January 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not a bad primer to get you started selling, but beware of the book's fatal flaw: Watch your margins! Another reviewer points it out, and it's worth repeating. The author recommends you go to the post office with your orders AND to pay them for delivery confirmation. If you do this, you will most likely cut your margin by more than half in excess postage fees, gas, and time spent in the endless post office line.

Use technology to save time and bucks by utilizing Amazon's postage service. Delivery confirmation is only .19 and the service fee is .07 - a far cry from the .85 charged at the PO. You print your own label, slap it on and drop it in your own mailbox. DON'T buy adhesive labels; rather, print your label on regular paper, trim it and glue it down with Elmer's extra adhesive glue stick (the PO doesn't recommend taping a label as scanners might not be able to read the barcode). Your overall margin using paper, ink and glue sticks will be much better than using adhesive labels. If you have a load of orders, only then take them to the PO and drop them off - no waiting in line and wasting your time.

Other than that (and the author's unfortunate sloppy grammar and typos inherent in amateur DIY Kindle books) the author offers good advice on sourcing, what sells and what doesn't, and pricing. Best advice is to never buy for more than .50 and never sell for less than $6.00. Don't be fooled by the .01 book scams offered by the phantom sellers. Books with multiple .01 offers are worthless. If you can't get $6.00 MINIMUM for a used or new book, then don't list it. Donate or trash it; it's not worth your time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing you can't find out FREE for yourself November 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have a lot of physical books I've acquired over time from researching various interests. Once I'd gleaned what I needed, I used to pack them off to library discard sales and the like; but some had cost a pretty penny and I noticed that Amazon offered an option to resell them. I'd also recently acquired an e-reader so I thought a virtual book about how to get rid of my unwanted physical books was an interesting twist.

This e-book is badly written, full of typos, ill-formatted, and contains no information unknown to folks who've experienced yard and library sales for themselves. Amazon clearly explains on its own website, its methods for (and fees associated with) marketing used books and How To Make Easy Money Selling Your Old Used Books On Amazon adds nothing to Amazon's own directives.

This book has taught me nothing, and given no tips that any adult with average intelligence can't figure out for herself.

By C. Song
Format:Kindle Edition
Well-written and conversational in style, the author walks you through every single step needed to start selling used books today. This market doesn't require any specialized knowledge, and the author does a great job of providing crystal-clear instructions, all while pointing out pitfalls to avoid and imparting the wisdom of his many years' experience in the business.

The majority of the book is focused on selling used books on Amazon, although the author does go into detail about selling books on sites such as eBay and Craigslist. The author stresses that you should be selling on all of these sites, however he breaks down the differences between each sales venue and tells you WHICH material to sell on WHICH site in order to generate the most profit. Comprehensive details are given about:
- How to set up your accounts.
- Exactly how to list the items online.
- Materials, equipment, etc that you'll need, and how to acquire them cheaply, and a schedule for acquiring them one at a time.
- How to store and keep track of inventory.
- How to pack and ship the books.
- How to deal with website fees, sales fees, and postage costs.
- How to maintain a 100% positive feedback rating.

There is also an incredibly meaty section about how to source your books - where to find them, how to pay for them (and how to price them later on). You're even given some instruction on how to negotiate for the best prices when making bulk book purchases. After reading this book, you'll be able to develop a rich list of places to purchase used books from (and those to stay away from), along with tips on how and when to get the best deals (e.g., the best time to purchase from a garage sale, the best time and method to purchase from a book store, etc).

2.0 out of 5 stars Too simple and too sloppy April 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The information contained in this book was just too simplistic. There was no real substance to the material. The 9-page free guidelines from Amazon were more helpful. I can forgive the simplicity of the book, and put it in the category of "just not for me." What I can't overlook is the sloppiness of this book. The author really should have taken the time to proof his manuscript before submitting it. Spelling mistake, grammatical errors, incomplete sentences...not very professional and very disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great September 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have done a bit of selling on Amazon but wanted to see what the author had to say. He had some new ideas on where to source books but the book had several mistakes that editing could have taken care of. I also take issue with his method of shipping and using delivery confirmation. For $.19 you can add delivery confirmation to the postage that you buy through Amazon (it's cheaper and faster than doing it at the post office). I have plenty of times put books into my neighborhood mailbox, negating the need to go to the post office. A lot of good information, but with a few issues.

More About the Author

Steve Johnson's books cover a wide variety of topics aimed at helping people find ways to solve their common, everyday problems. Johnson plans to introduce a broad library of helpful self-help financial guides over the coming years.

"By bringing niche know-how together in a simple, easily-accessible format of e-books powered by Kindle Direct Publishing, I believe there can be a powerful revolution in delivering quality information to all," he said.

Johnson is an e-book author and digital publisher who specializes on delivering high-demand 'how-to' content to readers. This content takes the form of Kindle e-books, niche websites, and online and offline articles that deliver a wide-range of free self-help articles on topics covering personal finance, debt relief, student loan repayment and loan forgiveness, and free tips on how you can restore good credit on your own.

"I created those free websites to help people find simple solutions to life's little problems," Johnson explains. "There is a growing need for simple, practical advice in this ever-changing, complex world we live in. Now, the Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing platform delivers more indepth 'how-to' information that can better help even more readers."

His books include his most popular work, "How To Make Easy Money Selling Your Old Used Books On Amazon," detailing a step-by-step system showing how anyone can earn extra income by starting their own home-based bookselling business by listing old used books online.

It was his first e-book published on Amazon Kindle, and it stems from a chance purchase he made at an estate auction back in December 2010. After making a low-ball bid on a large lot of nonfiction books at the auction, Johnson came away with a truckload of books -- and no idea what to do with them next. He turned to selling the used books on Amazon Marketplace.

Over the following year, Johnson learned what worked and didn't work. From that first year's experience, he knew other newbie booksellers and ordinary people who were searching for a simple home-based business idea would benefit from what he had learned along the way.

"The reason I wrote 'How To Make Easy Money Selling Your Old Used Books On Amazon' is to take the reader who has the 'Want-To' and give them the 'How-To," Johnson said. Scores of readers have benefited from this book.

"I boiled down the essential skills and tasks somebody needs to follow to be successful at selling used books online, allowing people to earn a few hundred dollars a month or build a full-time business selling used books working from home," he noted.

That e-book -- launched in March 2012 -- has helped share tips and techniques with new online booksellers by revealing ways they too can make money buying and re-selling used books, music CDs, instructional DVDs, and other printed products. A paperback version is also available on Amazon.

In June 2014, Johnson published a related book titled: "How To Make Easy Cash With Old Magazines," closely detailing ways to make money finding, listing and selling vintage magazines online. "When I'm out sourcing used books for my inventory, I often come across old magazines in specialized niches. I share with others through this new book how to profit from both vintage magazines and back-issues of popular niche magazines."

Two other books he has published -- "Sell More Kindle Books! How You Can Write Better Book Descriptions That Can Sell More Kindle Books" and "How To Make Your E-Book Make Money!" -- were written after Johnson learned through trial and error what worked and didn't work while self-publishing on Amazon Kindle.

One of his most recent books, "Self-Publishing Kindle Books That Sell," published in 2014, shares his belief that anyone, anywhere can successfully write and publish their own how-to book by following some simple research techniques to self-publish non-fiction e-books that readers are already eager to buy.

"My goal is to help fellow independent 'Authorpreneurs' take control of their destiny and transition to 'Indie Publishers' so they have the know-how to research, edit, format, and promote their own non-fiction audience eager to find solutions to life's little problems," Johnson said.

Johnson lives and works in the beautiful Ozarks Mountains. He retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve after 24 years military service.
