Must-have for every self-publisher,

This review is from: How to Make Real Money Selling Books Without Worrying about Returns: A Complete Guide to the Book Publishers' World of Special Sales (Paperback)
This book is a must-have for every self-publisher. It is filled with ideas, information, resources and practical links to help you sell books outside the book trade.
Being a self-publisher myself of my first book, I missed information on how to actually turn these ideas into practical doing. For example, if you have found a large company that your book would be a great match with, how do you find the right person to talk to? The book talks a lot about the importance of pitching to the right person, but not how to find these people within a company. Maybe that's just pure sales-tactics, and I would need to get another book about that subject, but I would have appreciated at least some information in this book. Especially, because the author has a lot of experience in that field. Also, some (more) examples of pitch letters would have helped. But overall, a great book for every self-publisher.

Making a living as an author is tough, I have been trying to do it for 4 years now and I am still struggling. In this new book by Brian Jud the thought of actually making a living as an author seems obtainable! I am so excited to have read this book, I had to have a notebook by my side because I took so many notes. Brian shares his expertise and knowledge on selling books in a way that can help you make money, gain exposure and be successful. I would highly recommend this book to anyone even considering writing a book, becoming an author or thinking about how much money they could make once they write and market their book. A real eye opener full of resources and tips that will take you to the next level.

This book was extremely helpful in outlining the different options when exploring specialty stores. I have been researching this topic for months, spending hours searching in different places for the information I need. Brian Jud did all the legwork by expertly arranging and explaining the various types of stores and types of organizations. This book was essential in helping me develop my marketing in sales plan in an efficient way.

Highly recomended - amazing amount of detail,
This review is from: How to Make Real Money Selling Books Without Worrying about Returns: A Complete Guide to the Book Publishers' World of Special Sales (Paperback)
This book provides in-depth information on selling books through nontraditional sales channels, including bulk sales, educational sales, selling to libraries and the military, book clubs, catalogs and more.
The author includes a high level of detail and lots of resources. For example, the chapter on gift shops includes detailed information on selling to Hallmark stores, a list of gift shop chains, and information about gift industry publications, tradeshows and distributors. The specialty store chapter discusses working with national distributors who supply products to chains and gives insight into how to sell to these stores. How to Make Real Money Selling Books is highly recommend to any author or publisher who wants to succeed in selling into non-bookstore markets.

A must have for DIY authors,
This review is from: How to Make Real Money Selling Books Without Worrying about Returns: A Complete Guide to the Book Publishers' World of Special Sales (Paperback)
Brian Jud is an expert at selling to non-traditional markets. This book outlines some of the methods he has used over the years. Not everything will work as some of the ideas don't apply to all titles but any DIY author needs to get this book.
Also with so many people publishing their own work today, new marketing ideas are necessary and Brian supplies plans that are still foreign to traditional publishers. It's worth placing this book on your shelf as you move forward with your own marketing plans. I was impressed with Brian's presentations in an all-day seminar I attended in St. Louis Oct. 1, 2011. I bought his book and I'm literally blown away with the quality and quantity of detailed, useful information and ideas for marketing your book. There are literally hundreds of ideas and specific sources that I would have never even dreamed of thinking about. A definite keeper reference for any author.

Love this book. Can't say that I read it from cover to cover, which I probably should, but refer to it as we continue to try to figure out this crazy book market that exists today. Chock full of good ideas, references, examples. Thank you Brian Jud!

Before reading Brian Jud's book I felt that true insight into the marketing of books was the domain of mystics who plied their trade in large corporations, or those who had the money to garner magical secrets. His book displelled that belief. After staying up all night (out of excitement) to finish his book, I got the knowledge that I needed to market and sell books. This is not some pie-in-the-sky feel-good book, it is an exceptionally practical book that shows you how it's done. In my opinion, in seminar format, the ideas contained in this book could easily sell for $1000. or more.
Now, all I have to do is fight procrastnation.

Brian Jud has compiled an excellent tool for authors and publishers to make money from their books that goes beyond the bookstores. I read it cover to cover, highlighting and marking pages, and am putting his methods to use in my own two books.

Brian's new book is packed with useful information. In fact, it takes time to absorb
all of it. All independent publishers and new authors would benefit from reading this book and applying some of the strategies he lists. It is well worth the money. Judy S. Walter, author |
