Book Description

How to be Money Smart is directed toward 18-30 year olds who want to build wealth and live well.

Easy to read, and quick to implement, this guide explains how to buy a car, whether to rent or buy a house, how to develop an effective saving and spending plan, and how and where to invest.

Dr. Mary Kelly was once asked if she was afraid of the risk involved with investing. Mary's answer was, "I am far more afraid of having to buy cat food when I don't have a cat."

This became part of the many personal finance courses Mary has taught for three universities to thousands of students.

Money Smart is dedicated to Mary's students, with the hope that they will make smart decisions, live well, and help others.

Being smart about personal finances has never been more important. Start now!

Perfect for college students, new managers, or anyone who needs guidance and motivation on how to be smart with money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Author, Consultant and Parent April 16, 2013

Dr. Mary Kelly has filled a huge void. Most young adults know that money is important, they just lack the knowledge at a young age of specifically what they need to do to build wealth. This book is simply written and tells kids what actions they need to take today, to be financially strong in their younger years...and wealthy in their retirement years. This is a great book at giving kids the keys to unlocking long-term wealth.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all of my friends April 12, 2013
Format:Paperback
This is the book everyone I know needs to read. Mary Kelly wrote this book for adults entering the workforce, but many people into their 30's and 40's still don't know what to do with their money. With clear steps and easy to follow language, this book is truly a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read April 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a must read for the young adult population whether in college or not. I'm a 23 year old college student that just learned the basics of financial management in one sitting. This is the first book I've began to read and didn't stop until the end which is saying something. Keep em coming Dr. Kelly!!

As a former Midshipmen Financial Advisor at the Naval Academy, Economics Major '88, Certified Financial Planner with 20 years in the business, I can vouch for the fact that those who heed Mary's warnings will find it hard not to find financial independence early in life. Why go through mistakes that most people make from college to mid-life and then find themselves scrambling to catch up, when you can learn from the myriad of real life money train wrecks in this book. It's simple but not easy. Don't let life "happen" to you, be proactive and then enjoy the fruits of your labor. Keep this book at your side and you'll be a step ahead of everyone else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary does it again! April 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mary Kelly is one of those rare people who can put important information into useful, bite size pieces that is easily digested and leaves you purring for more. This little book is full of everyday, common sense wisdom regarding personal finances. Written in a fun and straightforward way, this book will leave the reader with the necessary ingredients to make a balanced financial meal. My wife and I have used many of these principles for the last 30 years. It is refreshing to see them in print in one easy-to-read book. Read this book to get your financial house in order so you have more time to enjoy your cat without worrying about having to eat cat food in your retirement years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crucial Information November 29, 2013
By Ilzamar
Format:Kindle Edition
I wish I'd discovered a book like this when I was in my 20's. Solid, intelligent advice. Clever and valuable tips on saving, spending and investing. If you're don't live in the US (I'm Canadian) about 1/3 of the info and suggestions won't be all that useful specifically. But the ideas behind them are quite valid. Plain language. Easy to read. If there is anything missing it would be about how to address some of the emotional issues we all have around $$$. But if you want practical strategic advice, this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars it's good intro book
I felt like there would be more depth into topics than was actually discussed. The book does cover a lot of aspects for financial advice, but too vague.... At least for me.
