Editorial Reviews

Hailing from Sacramento, California, Death Grips was formed in late 2010 and consists of vocalist Stefan Burnett and production team Zach Hill and Andy Morin. The band dropped the highly acclaimed mix tape Exmilitary featuring the standout track "Guillotine", Time Out NY 's #1 single of 2011. The release garnered critical praise from tastemakers such as Pitchfork, NME, Spin, The New Yorker, and more, with many call outs on year end best of lists. Death Grips follow up Exmilitary with their Epic Records debut, The Money Store. The album builds on Exmilitary's unique punk rap sound and explores new territory with standout tracks "Get Got", "Blackjack", and "I've Seen Footage".

Death Grips' "The Money Store" is a must buy for anyone who likes music, period. If you're new to Death Grips and haven't listened to their free downloadable mixtape "Exmilitary" , know that this album will be unlike anything you're used to hearing. I listen to a lot of Norwegian Black Metal, Hardcore Punk, EDM and Underground Rap-- despite my background, Death Grips still proves to have creative and catchy work. They aren't constrained to any genre archetypes either,so no pretentious BS here, just raw music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Album. April 26, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This album is definitely not for everyone. Its visceral, full of aggressive emotions and in your face throughout. Was it for me? The answer is hell yes. Every song is diffrent from the other and has alot more variety then their mixtape Exmilitary which was still a phenomenal tape in my book. Songs on this range from atmospheric to mosh pit crazy. Replay value is huge on this thing as well. I lost count how many times ive listened to it but i have not grown tired of it. To put it siimply, i love this album and cannot wait for their next release later this year "No Love." If you havent heard any of Death Grips music and want to hear the hip hop genre being pushed to the boundaries, do not pass this masterpiece up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Musical Bliss April 25, 2012

Truly an amazing piece of work. Who would have ever thought that such a unique and powerful hiphop album could convey such emotion. The lyrics, the instrumentals, production... all of it was mastered so perfectly. It has honestly changed my life for the better. I am now off drugs, back in college and working part time to support my child. I am a new man. Mu

3.0 out of 5 stars Aight but ex-military hits harder
Lots of weirdness on this album. It's good but ex-military hit the sweet spot in my opinion. I'm all for craziness but it still has to be listenable.

5.0 out of 5 stars DARK!
Extremely catchy songs.Lots of real gritty lyrics. Reveals a lot more about M.C Ride. Shows more about his fragmented schizo persona. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars all killer, no filler
I love every bit of what they do on all three of their albums, but I appreciate that they chose to make this one less angry/shouty than the first one, so it's not such a hard sell... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Just listen to 10 seconds, you will either hate it or not be able to...
I don't know how to describe this. I don't care what genre you want to put this in. I assume their shows end because everyone in the audience has had a heart attack.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crap
Don't know why this is rated 5 stars and there's not one 4 star rating, or shockingly enough, a 1 star rating, but here I am to hopefully save you from buying this. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Nine Inch Nails does Rap
The title kind of under sells it, but the beats are industrial inspired and add a very distinct edge not found in the rap genre. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars My personal AOTY
This is a wonderfully abrasive musical journey. Though be warned it isn't for those that don't have an affinity for the weird and experimental.
