Editorial Reviews

"The Los Angeles hip-hop artist known as 2Mex spouts complex lines of verse as naturally as if he were breathing and his freestyle during live shows defines the ease with which he slides the world's tensions and issues into narrow caverns of rhyme and repetition." - DUSTED

"L.A. underground hero!" - MEAN STREET

Hailing from mid-city Los Angeles, indie-rap heavyweight 2Mex began building his name at the legendary Good Life Café, which has spawned tons of luminaries such as Freestyle Fellowship, Abstract Rude and Jurassic 5, just to name a few.

2Mex is coined by many as the "hardest working man in underground hip-hop." Now, he has enlisted the efforts of superior beatmaker/rapper Life Rexall for $martyr. A lifetime member of the L.A. underground legends The Shapeshifters, Life Rexall has reached a new level in the game with his bright-vibed production and thought-provoking word wizardry.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most slept on album of 2006! (4.5 Stars), June 28, 2006
This review is from: Money Symbol Martyrs (Audio CD)
This album will blow your mind. Not in the since of being amazing, although it is, but in the since of literally expanding your thoughts to another level. 2Mex and Life Rexall have been making noise in their respective crews the Visionaries & LA's legendary Shape shifters crew for years. As they combine to become $martyr or "money symbol martyrs" you can't help but see the truth in what they are speaking on. Hip Hop and the artists who populate the diluted genre are more and more frequently looking for that dollar. Not that there is anything wrong with trying to make a buck, as they point out on the hilarious and probably oh so true cut "Full Court Pressure" (9) where they breakdown the issues with promoters not paying up after shows and fans who drive escalades and don't buy their albums. You can be lookin to get paid, it's when you align yourself with that dollar sign and forget about the art and culture your supposed to be representing. As cliché as it sounds 2Mex & Rexall "represent" for real and keep you on your toes, never sure what your gonna get. One minute it's some boom bap hardcore type hip hop, the next it's a love song, and the whole damn time it is what they do best: quality, fun hip hop that is their for your mind as much as it is for your neighborhood block party on Saturday night!

5.0 out of 5 stars I bought this long ago and never listened to it.., September 25, 2010

I bought this from Aaron Records in Hollywood long ago cause the guy behind the counter was bumping it and i liked one of the songs so he told me that it was all good. I bought it but never listened to it til a couple weeks ago. Partly because, I have several cds in my collection and never really heard too much about this album. wow. I am not going to say it has the best beats ever or the most hard lyrics ever... but for such an underground release.... how in the hell did this not make any noise? the beats are banging and and all the rappers lay down some tight verses. 2MEX never sounded this good- even in his own personal albums. I have hundreds of cds in my collection of both underground and mainstream..this cd really stands out as one of the best. you can not deny the beats and the real hip hop sounds from the mixture of original lyrics and the hunger in the emcees voices. #6 is my favorite song. It sounds like a Just Blaze track and all the mcs kill it.
