About Mongoose
Founded in 1974 in a Southern California garage, Mongoose has always been an innovator. From the company's initial cast-magnesium MotoMag wheels to its current crop of BMX, mountain, and pavement bikes, the Mongoose name has been synonymous with bicycle performance. Mongoose builds specifically for riders, which is why the company's BMX designers aren't wasting time watching reruns on ESPN2. Instead, they're constantly testing their new designs at the park, on the track, and on the hill. This continuous experimentation is what drives Mongoose to cook up things like the Front Porch head tube, which lets you fine-tune the handling on Black Diamond series mountain bikes, or Freedrive suspension technology, which eliminates pedal bob and provides a super-efficient full suspension. Mongoose bikes don't just push the limits; they set new ones.

Built really good.

So much so that UPS literally piled the bike parts held together by zip-ties on top of the mangled box on our porch.

We just received this bike today (delivered by fed ex)... the box was definiely beat up, but the bike was in perfect condition!! We are really happy with it! My son is going to love it for christmas!! He is 4 & 1/2 and about 45" tall, so he is kinda between sizes for bikes -20" is too big and 16" is too small- this is the perfect size for him!! We looked all over for an 18 inch bike and none of them were as cool as this one! I would recommend this bike to anyone with a kid who is in between the most common sizes, but if you don't really need an 18" bike I would just go to target or walmart and save some money just because this one is a little pricy. Hope this helps!!

I purchased this bike and could not assemble it because the forks that hold the front wheel in place were improperly welded. They were visibly off-center. I agree with other comments that the box arrived in terrible condition, but the reason this is important is that I could clearly see that the box had been opened and re-taped. The brass staples were there but were not attached. This leads me to believe that these bikes are being returned, re-packed and shipped back out for a variety of reasons. The bike looks nice, but quality concerns cause me to absolutely not recommend it.

First, this bike is more of a purple shade than what is pictured. NO, this is not a problem with my monitor...after receiving the bike and seeing the color difference, I viewed the listing on all 7 monitors (yes, 7 monitors, hubby is an IT freak) we have in our house, as well on 4 cell phones with the fancy screens...it was the same color on all 11 screens, but not the same as what was delivered. My son took one look at it when it arrived and said, "Mom, I can't have a purple bike, I'm a boy, DUH!!" And he is soooo right. I'm wondering if we got one from a batch with a bad paint mixture or if that is the normal color?? I can't imagine it's the normal color and they have the nerve to call it a boys bike. Sooo, minus 1 star for that....

Next...
Yes, like other reviewers stated, ours arrived horribly damaged. So much so that UPS literally piled the bike parts held together by zip-ties on top of the mangled box on our porch. I'm not deducting a star for that because that doesn't have anything to do with the product ITSELF, but rather a review meant for Amazon and their packaging review section (or possibly to UPS for impropper handling). What I am deducting a star for is Mongoose's retarded idea of packaging materials. Quite possibly some things were lost in my box because there wasn't really a box to contain the parts, but what was delivered had absolutely NO packaging padding or foam of any sort to hold parts from bouncing around in the box. This is why I am assuming the boxes come apart so easily.

Purchased Mongoose 18" boys bike for grandson for his birthday. The shipment and communications from Amazon were excellent. However, bike arrived with considerable damage (nicks, scratches, decal damage etc..)and 3 days into riding it the pedal came off while he was riding it. I would hesitate to buy future products of this nature from Amazon.

as soon as i seen the box come off the UPS truck i knew it wasnt good!Parts of the bike were sticking out of the box!The parts inside were rolling around. The box look like it went to HELL and back!! to make a long story short, the frame was dinged up and scratched,it was missing parts and the forks were bent! over all this is a cheaply made bike thats very heavy! These are not made like the great gooses of yesteryears!Poorly packaged, poorly made!

Just finished trying to put this together for my son for Christmas. I really wish I'd paid attention to the other reviews before I bought it so I could have saved myself the last three hours of torture.

Where to begin...? First of all, half the Mongoose stickers are on upside-down on the frame, so it looks stupid. (Not that my 5 year old will care.) Secondly, many, many of the parts that come with the bike were mis-assembled (usually backwards or upside-down) at the factory, so whatever came assembled needed to be taken completely apart and put back together with some trial and error. And the directions are general directions for all Mongoose bikes so you don't have much to go on except for the pictures here at Amazon. So far two of the parts were broken, which I guess I'll have to call their toll-free help line about tomorrow. And the screw that's supposed to align the front brakes is stripped so I can't align the brakes or remove it to use a good screw. Plus it has a couple of large dings on the frame due to the very lousy packaging it arrived in (a common complaint among other buyers). I also agree with the comments about the very flimsy training wheels, which I'll probably have to replace before long as well.

Another wonderful Made in China product. Thanks Mongoose!
