3.0 out of 5 stars good inexpensive bike for youth boy
Quality of the bike was okay but be careful when trying to adjust the cables. The ends pop off really easy and then the cables fray out. I recommend crimping the caps on the cable ends before you start. Other than that pretty nice bike for my son.

I bought this as a Christmas present hoping that Amazon.com would pull through and make a special holiday for my girlfriend's son. Amazon.com delivered in style and exceeded my expectations. However.... We waited till Christmas morning to open the box. The bike was in great shape except there was a seat post clamp missing and the crown nut for the handle bar yoke was damaged. It looked to be damage that was done when the bicycle was originally packed at the factory as exterior of the shipping box was in great shape. As per the instruction manual we contacted the customer services about the missing parts rather then Amazon. It took 3 tries to get them to ship us the correct parts as the manual was too generalized to provide an adequate description to the mechanically challenged support person on the phone. Had the manual been better written I'm sure that this would have not been an issue. I will say that the customer service folks were very courteous and did their best to get a resolution to our problem.

I gave this bike 4 stars as it is a great value for the money paid. Amazon.com service was great and support from the bicycle manufacture was good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy 2 Assemble, one glitch, June 14, 2009

I bought this bike for my 5'2" 10 year old. He loves it. Granted we've only had it for a month. It arrived quickly and was easy to assemble. No worries about gears, they were already assembled and good to go. The one glitch; the rear tire was flat the next morning after assembling it. Had to take the gear assembly apart (argh) and replace. Wasn't as bad as anticipated. You can get virtually the same bike already assembled at WalMart now for the same or less $$. Wasn't the case when I bought it. But It seems to be a good sturdy bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bike - easy to assemble, May 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am 5"2 and bought this bike, assembling was very easy except the spoke adjustment and breaks could have been good, setting up breaks was hardest part.

Seat is not so comfy, so i had to buy a schwinn seat which is also not so good.

overall the ride is good and worth for the money.

This review is from: Mongoose Maxim Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (24-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
My (now 11 year old) son has had this bike for over a year now and he loves it. It did take a bit of work to get it assembled and adjusted correctly, but it has been flawless since. I think the quality and features are amazing for the price. The frame is super sturdy - not sure another reviewer could have had one break.

My son got this bike for his birthday last year. It is well built and a good value. Works OK for a 4th - 6th grader who's not quite big enough for a 26 or 27" wheel bike.

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems fine after a trip to the bike shop..., October 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mongoose Maxim Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (24-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
Though this isn't a top of the line bike (and priced accordingly) we spent enough that this shouldn't have required a trip to the bike shop for assembly. After trying unsuccessfully to align the wheels and get the brakes on properly we brought this in for professional help. $75 later (plus $15 to replace a badly designed kick stand) the bike seems fine. It appears that Mongoose needs to get some tighter controls over their production line.

4.0 out of 5 stars good sturdy bike., October 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a good but not great bike. The price is right. It's a bit heavy. When it came it had to have a $20 tune-up after I put it together. With better skills, it probably would not have needed that. Nonetheless, the brake alignment and functioning is not as good as it would be on a better bike, so a frequent problem is that the brakes get alittle misaligned and rub the wheel. Not too big a deal. Great big kids bike.
