This is not a bad bike at all for the price. Is it preassembled $400 local bicycle store bike for a kid? NO. Is it a great deal if you know even a smidgeon of bicycle mechanics? YES indeed.

Had it out of the box and put together and rideable in less than 30-45 minutes (and a lot of that was going slow to not scratch it). All you have to do is remove some packing materials, put the front tire on, put the handlebars on, install the pedals, and check tire pressure. Then, a quick inspection of the shifting (fine), the brakes (just a bit of barrel adjustment at the levers), and the wheel alignment/trueness (slightly off, but not more than millimeter or two...which isn't worth adjusting on a kids bike).

The grip shifters on this bike are the same that's on our really nice Trek tandem ($1200 originally), so it shifts pretty nice. Not too hard, not too easy. Maybe in a few years it'll be worthy of a couple upgrades as my kid grows to appreciate them....but for now, it's just awesome, she loves the color (lavender), and loves even more to ride it.

Bike is well suited for girls 8+ years old. The bike uses alot of steel, so it is not very light, but I have a similar Diamondback bike of similar weight so I think it is typical for this price category.

I found the bike easy to assemble, but requires some minor tuning of brakes, etc to ensure proper function.

The bike is a very good value at this price.

This bike is quite nice, and my 9 year old adores it. The only real issue is that it got a flat tire within a day. Investigation revealed that one of the spoke-heads had a burr on it, and had punctured the tire. A little filing, a drop of rubber cement, (and a new inner tube) and all is well.

The gears were adjusted pretty well for coming from the factory. Even my high end bike needed adjustment when I got it. (Of course, buying from REI, they did that for me... I had to do the final adjustment on this bike myself, but it isn't difficult, and it was only a tiny bit off.) Of course, if you aren't handy or have no clue about bikes, you might need assistance with this kind of thing. If so, you should buy from a shop. Note that stores like Toys-R-Us, Wally World, Target, or Sears never really do adjustments right anyway, you need a bike shop, or sporting goods specialty store. Or a handy friend. ;-)

The bike looks great, it is a good design. The issues I do have are small. The front brake needed a lot of adjusting and the handle bar clamp was assembled incorrectly. If you know enough about bikes you can get past this.

This bike was put together so poorly by the company, I had to take it to my local bike repair shop to get it fixed. The wheel was bent, the brakes were off alignment, screws were stripped, the gears were off, etc... My repairman spent several hours fixing the bike and it cost me $100. I would not recommend this bike.
