Amazon.com Product Description

Classic BMX styling combined with quality safety features make this a great transition bike to bridge the gap between training wheels and a two-wheel ride. Black with yellow graphics, the Mongoose Invert features a sturdy high-tensile aluminum frame, with a 48-spoke black alloy wheel set, strong enough for off-road cycling, dirt jumping and trick riding. Front alloy caliper-style brakes and rear U-brakes provide the braking power needed for safe dependable stopping, while the alloy platform pedals are light and provide a large contact area for improved foot pedal stability. Other nice features include a two-bolt stem for easy adjustments and a padded saddle to make riding more comfortable.

About Mongoose
In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame.

The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs).

In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look.

In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose’s brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome bike for kids between 16" and 20" frame size, July 15, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this bike for my son's 8th Birthday. He is 52" tall.

My son was getting too big for his 16" bike. We checked out a lot of 20" bikes but they were all too big. There are a few 18" on the market but all were too expensive. Although this is a 20" bike, it has a "compact" frame. Look at the top tube on the picture. It slopes allowing the seat to be lower. The length of the crank is also shorter so that the pedals don't come too high thus allowing the child to sit while riding.

Mongoose have other similar bikes but this one seems better. For a start, the frame is Aluminium which means it's lighter. Many of the components are better quality than say the Mongoose Crush (Eg. Alloy pedals rather than plastic). I paid $120 for this bike and would've quite happily paid up to $200 for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Bike with No Pedals!!!, December 23, 2007
By
rohnjomano (Stuart, Florida) - See all my reviews
We were very excited to assemble this bike tonight. The torn apart box foreshadowed what comes next. The bike came with neither pedals nor foot pegs as advertised!!! I ran out to Walmart and bought the last pair of pedals only to find out they don't fit. Christmas morning will come with a bike that my son won't be able to ride and it won't look like the picture either because the pegs are missing too. Customer service is closed; I'm sure until after Christmas. I hope Pacific Cycle is good enough to mail them out overnight when they re-open after Christmas. I'll update this review to let you know if they are...
