I originally ordered this so that I could get back and forth from work (few miles each way). The bike was great for short trips to the corner store, around the neighborhood and through the park. But when riding to and from work I started running into issues - For starters, the pedals are metal exterior but plastic interior with plastic snap bolts - The right pedal broke on the second day of riding it to work - They don't seem to handle lots of stress and when I would bike uphill, these plastic pedals just would not cut it.
Amazon made good on the break through and exchanged it for a new one - The new one I received though was worse than the first one, when I got it out of the package, there the front tire was not seated into the rim properly and so when you inflated the tire and rode around on it, eventually the tire would fall out of the rim and expose the tube. Secondly, the gear chain was not secured at all and when I got it it was jammed up into the gears - I had to pull apart the gears to get it unstuck and even then it still had issues shifting gears. Finally when I was riding it around to test the brakes, I started down a hill and when I went to pull the rear brake, the line went slack and the brake was dead - after inspecting the brake line, it seems it was damaged in a few places but someone had tried to straighten it out and reuse it.
I ended up just getting a refund for this and I am probably just going to end up investing the extra money to get something with more reliable parts (metal pedals, front and rear disk brakes, etc) such as the '06 mongoose elite. For the extra money, you get way more reliable parts and something that will probably last longer as well.
Unless you just need a bike for leisure rides around the neighborhood, I would recommend something else. The issues I ran into (Broken Pedal, Broken Gear Chain, Broken Brakes) are safety issues that could harm you or someone else that rides it - not just cosmetic issues. You should never skimp when it comes to safety.
