Ill start off by saying if your just looking for a commute bike you might as well make it a comfortable ride, right? Well this has it, I was looking for something to get back and forth to work with. This in mind i live where there is a lot of curbs and bad roads etc. so I wanted something that had some suspension. 217 bucks plus i bought the Kryptonite 2 lock (35$) i say you cant beat it. It came the day it said it would, box in perfect condition and only need to adjust cables and attach front wheel, just a smidge of an adjustment to the derauiler and everything was just they way it was intended to be. oh and make sure you clean front disc brake BEFORE the first ride to insure it brakes-in the correct way. hope i help any furture buyers out there.

Looked at a lot of bikes on Amazon before making the decision to buy the Mongoose. Excellent quality mountain bike for the cost. I had it shipped though a second hand company to get to me in Afghanistan (im a deployed soldier), and I ride it daily around the FOB. Was easy to assemble out of the box, and brakes and derailures came pre set and I had no trouble jumping right on and heading down the road! Only issue, the seat is hard and uncomfortable, so a gel seat should be aquired to save your butt.

This Mongoose is pretty not bad right out of the box. I have ridden a few Mongoose bikes prior, and have always like their ergonomics. This one is no different. The paddle shifters are short throw and precise out of the box. The derailer on the main rubs a little when in second, but its a quarter twist of a screw later and its perfect.

Pros:
Out of the box, bike is very well setup- needing only a few minor adjustments for your preference, and size.
Came double boxed from Amazon, both boxes arrived very well even with overnight shipping.
Stock seat is almost usable.
Nice fat tires, with nice irregularly spaced and designed tread.
Zoom front susp. is very responsive. Action is very quick and no clunks from the front!
Rear swing susp. is responsive, quiet, and solid.
WONDERFUL brakes.
15 minutes from arrival to riding.

Cons:
Reflectors on rims look out of place (terrible color, design)
Stock seat is almost usable.
Pedals have plastic hubs.

All and all, Im happy. Ill update this review after I get some miles on her this weekend.

08/18/2012 UPDATE:

I went on a good ride today, putting about 12 miles on the bike from black top to sand. Had some very steep climbs, as well as some switch backs and high speed runs.

PROS:
Great brakes
Great suspension
Great balance, even over mixed rock.

Cons:
Front brake squeeks- but it is a new bike

09/02/2012 UPDATE:

So in the past few weeks I would say I have put just under 100 miles on the bike. Everything works wonderfully, tires dont go flat, shifting is super smooth, and NO BRAKE SQUEAKS!!!
Top speed; for me, seem a pretty solid 35mph- that being on flat paved surface, 3&7 respectively.

This bike is awesome when it comes to eating up the bumps, potholes and curbs in the NYC streets. I ride mine back and forth to work, about a 3 mile commute. Took it to the trails, insane. Hard going up hills due to the weight. The delivery time was excellent. Next day. I love the black rims, disk brakes and front and back suspension. There is missing details of this bike, so here it is. Its an 18 inch frame and it has 26 inch wheels.

Cons- This bike is heavy.(great work out bike thou) No room for a water bottle holder or a air pump. But you can install a water bottle holder on the handle bars. I did. a must have. Frame is a little bulky. If your looking for something light and comfort, go with a hybrid bike.

Very easy to assemble. Handle bars, pedals and front wheel.

My only suggestions. Change the seat with an ultimate gel seat by Schwinn or Bell. Change the pedals with an all metal petal. Take to bike shop and get it the wheels trued, gears and brakes adjusted. The wheels may be a little bent due to shipping. Thats happens to evey bike thats ordered in the mail. All bike shops can fix all these issues usually around $50. Make sure you secure your bike with atleast 2 kyptonite bike lock, the minimum. Dont buy the mini bike locks. it will not fit bike frame or tires.

I bought this so I can start biking to work. When it arrived I was at work. By the time I got home my son had it completely assembled. He said it was very easy to put together. On my second day riding home from work I had to slam on the brakes. Sadly, I flipped over the handle bars, crashed the bike and fractured my shoulder. The good news is, I was wearing a helmet and the bike was remarkably not damaged. All I had to do was put the chain back on and re-aline the front wheel. Before my accident I rode it for 30 miles. The seat that comes with the bike is hard and extremely uncomfortable. I put it right in the garbage and bought a new comfortable seat. If it wasn't for that this bike would be perfect! I can't wait till my shoulder is healed so I can get right back on it. Thom R.
