5.0 out of 5 stars Best girl's 24" aluminum bike out there for $100.00!
I was pleased with this bike when it arrived. Assembly was not a problem. My biggest problem with this bike was the brakes. I found them very difficult to adjust which may be inexperience on my part. I am taking the bike to a local bike shop and having the brakes and levers upgraded to forte components(Performance Bike Brand) for $45.00 and $20.00 for installation and...

We bought this bike for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves purple and the components looked to be of decent quality. Arrived on time and the basic assembly was simple -- handlebars, wheels, seat.

BUT the quality was really bad. The breaks both stuck, the wheels had a wobble that caused them to rub (after I adjusted the brakes) and the gears needed serious adjustment -- they simply wouldn't work. And even after hours of work, they still don't work as good as my 10 year old bike.

I'm guessing that the Chinese factory that made it was overrun with orders and therefore skipped the whole quality testing/tuning step to get them on the boat.

Oh yeah, the manual is awful. Saved all the pages to publish in a bunch of languages and for every possible bike they make but has nothing useful for this bike.

Bottom line: spend the extra [...] to buy from a local dealer that will set the bike up right.

I was pleased with this bike when it arrived. Assembly was not a problem. My biggest problem with this bike was the brakes. I found them very difficult to adjust which may be inexperience on my part. I am taking the bike to a local bike shop and having the brakes and levers upgraded to forte components(Performance Bike Brand) for $45.00 and $20.00 for installation and a check to see everything is setup and adjusted correctly. For a total of $165.00 with upgraded brakes and levers and the peace of mind everything works as it should, YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE! The bike is lightweight and my daughter loves it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mongoose Montana Girl's Bike 24", October 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The bike was shipped very quickly. Easy to assemble, just add front wheel, seat, and handle bars. Bike needed to have brakes adjusted and gears. Read the owners manual and go on You Tube to watch the videos of the adjustments. It makes the adjustments a breeze. Bike is nice and light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well made, October 15, 2009

This is an excellent bike for a preteen girl. The gears are somewhat intimidating for our 8 year old grand daughter, but she will grow into it. She loves the color and comfort. I would recommend this more for 10 years and up. Was received on time also.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hu-Mongoose sized mtn bike!, September 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This 24" bike is WAAAAYYYY bigger than other 24" bikes we tried! 9 year-old average sized daughter won't be able to ride it until next year at best.... even with the seat set at it's lowest (with reflector removed so that it will even go lower! Pretty bike, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Bike for the Budget-Minded Rider!, June 28, 2010
By
This review is from: Mongoose Montana Girls' Mountain Bike (24-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I purchased the twenty-six inch version of this bike for my wife's birthday last year so we could ride together. She's a very small, tiny-boned woman of five-feet tall. We went from shop to shop and tried many different bikes, some very expensive, others ridiculously inexpensive. This bike really stood out amongst the others because of fit, features, and value.

A few comments based on our experience.

First, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for a bike you can beat on and ride excessively, you might want to look for a higher-quality, more expensive brand. This is a very good bike for the casual rider. When assembled properly, it rides very well on or off the road and is very comfortable for long periods of time. If you're a more serious rider, you'll probably want to upgrade the brakes or gears or look towards a different bike altogether. While the brakes and gears work fine, they aren't the highest quality. Also, the bike is a tad heavy, but for the price, it's fine.

Second, if you have no experience assembling bikes, or if you've only assembled a bike a few times, plunk down $25 to $40 and have a professional assemble it properly. There are alignment issues that can make or break a successful and enjoyable final assembly. I think a lot of the comments from others about wobbly wheels and sticky brakes are probably because attention wasn't paid towards proper assembly and alignment. We had our bike professionally assembled and it's been just fine! No wobbly wheels and no sticky brakes.

There's nothing wrong with this bike in its class. It's not designed to be the top of its class, but when looked at in terms of value, it's a fine bike that should last for many years, if properly maintained.

We're happy with the purchase for different reasons. For her, she's happy to have a bike. For me, it's nice to have my best gal by my side once again! :-)

The younger childs first bike so I'm sure its going to take alot of punishment. It's built tough and she loves the color(hard to find to find lt blue). Now all the neighborhood kids want one. Really good buy, absolutly no regrets.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK bike, November 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this bike for my daughter, and it's just ok. The seat is really hard, but I guess you get used to that (or you can replace it). And also, it a little heavy.

2.0 out of 5 stars DON'T EXPECT IT TO BE EASY...MAKE SURE A PRO ADJUST EVERYTHING, August 10, 2009

Nice bike for the price but I have done all the work on my Harley for years and this bike was not easy to make adjustments on. The wheels will need to be trued up and the brakes and shifters will need full adjustments by a professional.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a relative bargain, but needs lots of adjustments, July 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mongoose Montana Girls' Mountain Bike (24-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I had to true the front wheel, adjust the stubborn front brakes (one of the tension adjusters doesn't work), and all the brake pads. Brake levers and shifters needed repositioning on the handlebar. The drive train, rear wheel, seat, and cables were all fine. There's quick release for the seat but not for the hubs. Yes, it needs more work than most can handle, but I wanted good price, low weight, and decent parts. I got all that I wanted except for the couple of hours of work. The alternative heavy steel clunkers with flexi-parts at the stores are junk compared to this bike. Every part from the top tube down is lighter-than-steel alloy, especially the aluminum frame. It may well be the best value for $120. I take away one star for all the adjustments necessary. My daughter loves it.
