4.0 out of 5 stars Decent quality for this price range.
This is a pretty neat little kids bike. The quality is reasonable for a kid bike in this $60 - $80 range. Go check out the stores for bikes in this price range. They are all made in China, cheap, and heavy for such a small size, especially if you are familiar with high quality adult bikes. 1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
Since Mongoose is a reputed brand, I ordered this bike to find it of worse quality than bikes half its price. What was worse if that the front wheel did not fit the frame. Stay away and buy a cheaper bike. For 12-16", manufacturer's don't really give much attention to quality - all bikes are virtually the same.

This is a pretty neat little kids bike. The quality is reasonable for a kid bike in this $60 - $80 range. Go check out the stores for bikes in this price range. They are all made in China, cheap, and heavy for such a small size, especially if you are familiar with high quality adult bikes. As cheap as it is, it should still easily last for many years and will probably live long enough to pass on to multiple kids.

I suspect Mongoose has nothing to do with this bike other than licensing their name to the Chinese manufacturer that makes it.

It comes with a 100+ page book covering all kinds of bike assembly (Which is kind of useless). So there is no instruction sheet specific to putting this bike together, but if you've ever seen a bike before, you can figure out what goes where!

It comes mostly assembled. You have to install the Handlebars, Pedals, Front wheel, and Training wheels (and that's it). You'll need a 13mm and 15mm wrench and a way to air up the tires. The tires are already on the wheels, but not fully inflated. You can probably use an adjustable / cresent wrench if you don't have those metric wrenches. All of the nuts & bolts you need to turn are very easy to get to except maybe for the 13mm pedals. Some adjustable wrenches are thick and bulky and might not fit into the small recesses around the pedal shafts to tighten them.

You'll also need some zip ties or wire ties of some kind to attach the "BMX Racer" logo plate / number plate to the handlebars (if you even want to install it). It should probably come with some zip ties to attach it. Not everbody has those things just laying around.

It weighs 20 - 21 pounds when put together, which is dang heavy for a bike this size. The competitors are all equally heavy. Don't expect any lightweight alloy or creative lightweight design anywhere on these cheap bikes.

I used free shipping and the Bike box was inside a plain brown amazon box. No gaurentees on how your order would ship, but the brown box made it easier to sneak in as this was obviously a gift for a kid that didn't order it himself!

All said, I checked all the stores first, and this bike is equal in quality to anything in this price range, and I think it's way cooler than most of the cartoony or Disney branded bikes that dominate the toddler bike category in the big box stores.

My grandson loves this bike. It is sturdy and really small so it is perfect for a four year old. I would recommend this.

Got the bike on Amazon for $65 and its a fantastic value! Other sites had the same bike for more. This bike seems so much more sturdy than ones you buy from Walmart and cost less! It's definitely made with quality. My son is a huge fan as well!!!

I just gave this bike to my son for his 4th birthday... He was absolutely ecstatic.
(Just for reference) -- We had been riding bikes in the local walmart for practice, and was looking forward to a bike. I wanted to get him one that provided a bit more quality than walmart...my mistake.

When he sits on the bike, he looks like he's hugging a tree, because his bum is so far forward. They put the seat FAR too close to the handlebars. The seat should sit back so it's elevated above the rear tire a bit more. What an absolute disappointment. My son is average, to the small side in size, and frankly, I don't know how any child, any size could ride this thing.

Disappointed....

The most sad thing is, he's more disappointed than I am.

I bought this bike for my 4 year old grandson. Constructionwise the bike is well constructed. The one thing that didn't work for my grandson was the pedals are set high on this bike and the seat stem allows minimal adjustment. As such he can not pedal as freely as you would like. The seat steam needs to be a couple of inches longer to be able to adjust it correclty. For those that are thinking my grandson is a tall boy, he is not. He is actually short for his age.

Other than this issue, the bike is a fine bike. I admit I was disappointed when I saw the problem. If I had realized the probelm to begin with, I obviously would not have purchased the bike.
