We bought this bike for our 7 year old son. He loves it! A step up in "cool-ness" from his 16 inch SpiderMan bike. He loves the BMX features, such as the posts - he doesn't know how to use them yet - and mostly just stands on the back ones from time to time.

This 18 inch frame was a good transition size for him. I think the 20 inch frame would have been too big. Seems like a durable bike so far. Hand brakes are useable by his 7 y.o. hands. We also love the color - red really stands out and makes him a little easier to see when riding.

My husband put the bike together - and I didn't hear any complaints - and he did it quite quickly.

FYI - if you are ordering this as a surprise gift - know that the box has a picture of the bike on the outside... we almost ruined our surprise when the UPS guy came walking up to our house with the box before my son's birthday. My husband quickly directed UPS to the side of the house. phfew.

We bought this bike for my 5 year old and I have to say a few things about it. Frist, I should have read the info. better because it doesn't have pedal brakes as well as the hand brakes which is hard for a 5 year old. My complaint about this bike is that the pedals have come off several times which can be hazardous. As my son is riding they untwist and fall off......VERY ANNOYING. My husband is going to try and fix is somehow to make this problem go away. I would say do more research before buying this bike.

The sizes is perfect for my 6 year old son The 20'' is to big for him (Not Safe)
Thats why I went with this bike the SIZE, BRAND, And the fact there really isn't many 18'' bikes to chose from in these pice range.
This bike is well built one of the better one like other people have said the brakes on the bike are OK they work you have to adjust them to your liking.
I would buy again ...... If you are looking for a bike take a look at this bike.

The brakes don't work well, even after playing around extensively with the adjustments. This is just a poor quality product. Will be returning it.

We received this bike the other day for my son's birthday in 2 days. We picked this one mainly because it was red - his favorite color. When his dad put it together we noticed scratches on the brakes, handle bars, brake lines - it looks like a return that was sent back out and no one checked it before they repackaged it. Also, it has a different seat then what is shown in the picture. The seat we got was black with Mongoose printed all over it and the picture has a white seat with kind of a checked pattern. I now have the decision of returning it and not having the bike we wanted to give to my son on his 7th birthday or basically keeping a damaged bike. It's disappointing that Amazon would not do a quality check on the items that they send out

This bicycle had some missing 6mm adjustment nuts, so I went to the local hardware store and picked up some replacements. No big deal, $1.25 to buy four of them, and now I have extras. So having passed that hurdle, I had almost finished assembling the thing and realized they included the wrong rear brake cable assembly. The cable and jacket were way too long, could not adjust the rear brakes to where they would put tension on the bottom plate of the cable detangler. The cable assembly that came with this bike was obviously meant for a larger bicycle. I returned the item for a refund, going to buy a similar Mongoose at a brick and mortar store. Though Amazon return policy is the best experience available in the world of e-tail, disassembling a bicycle that I had nearly finished assembling and boxing it up to return is still a pain regardless of the fact that they are taking care of return shipping. At least with a brick & mortar, if there is an issue with a part that is amiss, hopefully they can swap out the part from a new-in-box item then RMA that one and save me from having to disassemble the thing. Very discouraged with this. Also, the included instructions are for a variety of bicycles, but they don't actually include much in the way of instructions related to this actual bicycle. All around disappointed, but there do not seem to be a lot of alternatives in this size bicycle that don't have a coaster brake. So, as much as I cannot recommend this bike, I guess I will be buying another one similar to this.

UPDATE: I purchased basically the same bike in green at Toys-R-Us (only theirs is called the Antic) and all was well, I had the bike out of the box and it was being taken for a test ride about 20 minutes later. I would imagine that if Amazon had sent me another bike, it would have been just fine, but I didn't want to have to have to wait for another bike. The bike is actually pretty great, for what it is, and the boy loves it!

I have never (and probably never will again) buy an unassembled bike. How hard could it be, two wheels maybe a few nuts and bolts.
Imagine how wrong you could be; a box of part and a box of assorted nuts and bolts and NO insturctions.
2 1/2 hours later and a lot of help from friends it is together. It better be an awesome Christmas present!
