4.0 out of 5 stars Looks good, once you lose the stickers
Once you get rid of the 27 "disk brake equipped" stickers, it looks good. I got this from Amazon, and setting it up was tricky. I am familiar with working on bikes, and getting all of the gears and breaks adjusted correctly proved a challenge.

After I finally got it set up, I found the big knobby tires slowed me down a lot on pavement. So I got a set of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish someone else would have assembled mine
Picked this bike up for about a hundred bucks (cheaper than most) about six months ago, and now it's sitting in my garage until I feel like shelling out a bunch of money. Firstly, I don't know why anyone would pay more than I did for a "mountain" bike with a sticker on it that says "not meant for off road use." Mine was put together by a dept store employee. Had...

After I finally got it set up, I found the big knobby tires slowed me down a lot on pavement. So I got a set of Forte Greenways ($20/pair) which are lighter and work a lot better on pavement, while retaining decent grip for tougher terrain.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really like this bike, September 1, 2010
I bought this bike a few months ago mainly to ride back a forth to work (about a mile each way) but I like riding it so much I find myself looking for excuse to ride it more. The 21 gears change smoothly, the brakes work really well and are quiet. The seat is even fairly comfortable and the dual suspension gives a good ride. I really like the way it looks and I get compliments on it too, so I guess I am not the only one that thinks that. I had it assembled so I cannot comment on the instructions. I am not a avid cyclist and I know it does not compare to the really expensive bikes those kind of people ride but for exercise and fun riding you cannot beat it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat the price, May 4, 2010
It's been quite a few years since I owned a bike and thus I was a little hesitant going from a $700 bike (previous one) down to one that was less than $300...but I'm happy. I'm not an expert biker or one that is planning on doing anything but leisurely stuff so this works well.

The only "changes" I plan to make are to get some smoother tires for the road (these are pretty rough) and the only real "issue" I have is the lack of space to put anything thus I will have to carry a small backpack that I can keep my lock, pump, repair kit, etc. with me on.

The instructions on putting this together also were pretty lacking. Even though it's self explanatory I did have to refer to a picture once.

Firstly, I don't know why anyone would pay more than I did for a "mountain" bike with a sticker on it that says "not meant for off road use." Mine was put together by a dept store employee. Had problems basically from the get go, the left crank would loosen up, the brakes are horrible, and just a few weeks ago the freewheel broke. After having a free estimate done at the local bike shop they told me it would be about $150 ($70 for parts) to get it back to par. Though I did not baby this bike, I took fairly good care of it. Other than a couple days on the trails, I would casually ride around town every other day. All in all, I learned a lot of maintenance and lessons for when I buy a true mountain bike.

Looks good, but have some brake issues. That may have more to do with how we assembled it rather than the bike itself. It's a good bike!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal "Vanish Mtn Bike", March 16, 2009
This review is from: Mongoose Vanish Men's Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I bought this bike last month from meijers and so far I've enjoyed it but I'm looking to change out the tires to something a little more smoother since I ride mainly street/bike trails.

But The best part was Meijers didn't have a price on bike so the employee told me that it looked similiar to another bike and I got it for $150

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Bronz..... Two thumbs up!!!!!!, July 2, 2009
A Kid's Review
Pros: This bike has really great suspension, quick shifting gears, easy maintenance, nice big fat tires :-) ... great handling on trails and down hill rides. over all, Well worth its price.

Cons: It a bit too heavy going up hill ( about 40-45 pounds), disk breaks are only on the front (since it has one it should be in the back but the other breaks work just as well anyway) my only complaint is the crapy pedals it came with...

I recommend this bike but get your self some good pedals...

This review is from: Mongoose Vanish Men's Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I bought this bike for 197.00 at a local retailer and the quality is ok and it looks nice...but you cannot expect to get much of a bike for 2-3 hundred dollars. Most durable bikes will cost you 500.00 and up. For the price it is worth it..u can always upgrade some of the components later.

3.0 out of 5 stars an OK bike, September 17, 2008
This review is from: Mongoose Vanish Men's Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I bought it from fogdog.com when they had a 25% off and free shipping deal. Even with that deal, I ended up with only saving a few dollars than buy directly from Amazon. But at that time, Amazon only sell these bike through fogdog.

Let's talk about the bike. It looks pretty cool(or at least I think so), with all the disc brake, dual suspension stuff. But the quality is not so great. I think you get what you've paid for. The shifting gears are not stable, for they cannot sustain in some of the combination and will make a lot of noise as they were yelling for a change. The crank start making cyclical noise after like 3 days. But the noise magically disappears after 2 weeks or so. But this back and forth just made me less confident in the quality of this bike.

As I only use it as transportation from my living place to school, and I never give it any maintenance for the month I've owned it, I guess it's what you get for the money. Can't complain.
