5.0 out of 5 stars 'Mutant Monkees' is great!
I helped do some of the photo/color designs that are in the book, so what can I say, but I love it! It is a very good book, regardless of me. Lots of great photos, designs, comments by Davy and memories. It's a must for any Monkees fan's library.

2.0 out of 5 stars Graphics artists' delight in 1992!
I try to ignore the strange alliteration of this book title, while flipping through the image-packed pages with a sometime scrapbook feel to it. This is a visual book, pure and simple. I try to ignore the strange alliteration of this book title, while flipping through the image-packed pages with a sometime scrapbook feel to it. This is a visual book, pure and simple. This paperback, coffeebook-table-sized book on nice quality slick paper, is a delight in terms of visual gimickry using the Monkees themselves as the primary subject; this book is really for the hard core Monkee fans who are the completists in terms of their Monkees book collections.

My biggest complaint about the book is throughout it, the text is somewhat scattered and hard to read becuase of the bright colors on the layout and the montage of graphics. The graphics artists really show off their stuff using Photoshop and other software on their Macs, but since 1992, graphics arts has come a very long way so some of the work seems rather dated and perhaps, odd to the user who is accustomed to current graphics arts in the early 21st century.

If you are geared toward creative artistic visuals and distortions of the Monkees faces, such as in caricatures, it is for you. There are also some rare pictures I have not see elsewhere, even online. The date of the pictures of the Monkees, their friends and family range from the 60s to the late 80s.

I would rate this book as very strange in visual content overall, but definitely for the fan at heart. You do get some good pictures from Davy's personal photo collection, nice family pictures of his daughters, for example. I think Davy Jones still sells this book on his website for a decent price. Go for it if you are big fan, otherwise, I would recommend other books, such as Micky Dolenz' biography.

Just for your info about my ratingL I am ranking it with 2 stars because there are duplicate reviews here with a higher rating. I think 3 stars is probably fair enough.

Davy, first of all, is an accomplished singer, actor, and now author! This book is sad yet happy, comical yet serious, it's like a tornado of emotions rolled up into one great monkee !
