Kindergarten-Grade 1-In Business, a little monkey makes birthday presents for his mother, hides in a trash can, gets so many bandages that he pretends to be a mummy, and loses a tooth. In Trouble, the same character pops some balloons, gets carried away by a kite, pretends to eat worms, and has a series of close calls that culminate in a big "SPLASH!" The chapters have one sentence per page, and feature plenty of repetition and controlled vocabularies. The colorful cartoons help new readers decipher unfamiliar words. The stories have a touch of humor, which adds to their appeal. Early readers will find success in reading these independently.

This is a great book for beginning readers. The stories are darling! Plus, the illustrations correlate well to the story giving the beginning reader extra clues as to the story words below. Unlike some beginning readers, this series is age appropriate through age 8. It appeals to the older beginning reader as well as the younger reader. I heartily recommend this book to anyone with a beginning reader.

I am going to give this review from a slightly different perspective, from that of a father of a child with Asperger's. My son fell in love with this book after we got it from the library so I had to buy it. He has read it cover to cover, memorized it, and runs around the house reciting it. He was excited about it from the first read. It is nice to find a book that catches his attention so much as that can be a chore. I highly recommend this book!

I homeschool my 4 1/2 year old son and have bought just about every beginning reader book to help learn the joy of reading and slowly teach him how to read. By far, Brand New Readers are the very, very best. I highly recommend them to parents and hope you try these before you go out and buy any others, no other company does it better. The stories are short, very cute and fun, with vibrant pictures so your child will want to go from story to story. They always have a really cute ending that even adults will enjoy. What is so wonderful about them is that they are repetitive from page to page with only simple changes so your child can predict the words using the pictures and read the story themselves. Even though my son can not actually read he feels like a successful, independent reader and is so proud that he can read his favorite stories anytime he wants, all by himself. He reads to us, he reads to his sister, he reads to our cat! Slowly he is picking up common sight words that he reads over and over in his books. I plan to buy all the beginning reader books I can find, my son can not get enough of them.
