Naughty, magical and imaginative,
This review is from: The Monkey King's Daughter (Paperback)
My 8-year old daughter finished the 'Magic Tree House' series and nothing has captured her imagination since until she started on the 'Monkey King's Daughter' series. Meilin faces the usual problems of a school kid, has 2 cultures she needs to balance, but then the stories take off into the magical world of the Monkey King. Conjuring a little cloud to fly on, mastering her martial arts - it just makes one wish to be Meilin :)
My daughter is on book 3 right now, and we can't wait for more books in the series to come out. We keep buying the series to give to my daughter's classmates as birthday gifts, and it is getting popular in our circles.

Some people wish they had extraordinary origins, others wish they were normal. "The Monkey King''s Daughter" is the story of Meilin, who soon finds out that she is the daughter of the mythical Sun Wukong. With that knowledge, she finds herself missing the days when homework and boys were the only thing on her mind. A fun mix of classical Asian mythology and a charming young adult read, "The Monkey King's Daughter" is quite the entertaining read, highly recommended.

a quick, fun-read for the preteen set,
This review is from: The Monkey King's Daughter (Paperback)
I read this book one morning while my grandson was napping.
It's a delightful read. And I think it's perfect for kids between 8 and 12 years of age. The writing is descriptive, the story is a bit unusual, and very fast paced. And since today's kids like to be entertained , I would recommend it . I hope it developes into a series..... it's nice to know there are good books like this for kids to enjoy. |
