A fantastic novel for young adults about a mysterious curse that is causing the orangutans of Mukada Nature Reserve to fall sick,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monkey Magic (Paperback)
A handful of black-and-white pictures illustrate Monkey Magic: The Curse of Mukada is a fantastic novel for young adults about a mysterious curse that is causing the orangutans of Mukada Nature Reserve to fall sick and journey toward the coast. Eleven-year-old Romy Alexander, visiting Borneo along with her father, remains skeptical of the park warden's explanation that the orangutans are overcrowded. Romy's own extraordinary powers come to light, and soon she realizes that she is the only hope of breaking a malevolent curse upon the orangutans. A dangerous yet engaging adventure evolves. It should be noted that the authors of Monkey Magic prove their respect for orangutans by donating ten percent of their royalties for Monkey Magic to orangutan conservation charities.

Enjoyable read with a great environmental message,
By Alice Berger "Bergers Book Reviews" (Pennsylvania, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monkey Magic (Paperback)
Orangutans of the Mukada Nature Reserve are getting sick and heading to the coast. But what's causing this unusual phenomenon? Is it overpopulation, as suggested by the park warden? Romy and her scientist father plan a visit to investigate, since something doesn't feel quite right.Soon after their arrival, Romy hears of the curse of Mukada - and she also discovers Monkey Magic. This magic helps her to communicate with the orangutans, with surprising results. Armed with new information, she and her father are able to solve the mystery and save the orangutans. Monkey Magic also provides facts about orangutans, and how their habitats are being threatened by human encroachment. This delightful, magical tale shows us how greed can harm wildlife, and why we need to take immediate action to try to stop it. I highly recommend this enjoyable story with a great environmental message. Reviewer: Alice Berger
