Our family got this set for Christmas, and we've been happily playing except for one thing. The photo shows marbles, but as the product description says the little balls are actually wooden. It's super-tough to put the right piece in the right place because those stinkin little balls are so light. They also bounce out frequently and our dog chases them. We'd recommend getting a set with heavier, irregularly-shaped stones. They are easier to handle, especially for small hands, and they plop right in there without bouncing out.

My elder daughter loves to play mancala and I wanted a larger board that she and I could use to play the game. I checked several of the boards available through Amazon and settled on this one based on the good reviews. I was very pleased with the product. It's a solid wood board that folds for storage. The board is mortised where the hinges are attached so that the board lays flat when open. When closed it fastens shut with a loop and peg. In place of stones or beads it comes with wooden balls slightly smaller than marbles. They are easy to pick up and handle but their light weight causes them to bounce and roll away easily, so handle them with care. It also comes with a sheet of paper with the game rules. Over all it's a good product.

This mancala board is real wood and very attractive. It's much higher quality than the other boards I've seen. It's a good size and it's easy to port around b/c it folds and latches. The wooden pieces are light, but it doesn't bother us. The clasp is simply a small blue nylon loop that pulls over a wooden knob at the end of the board, and the first game that we received was very difficult to unlatch and latch (the nylon loop was too tight and finally pulled out after one attempt to pull it over the knob). Monkey Pod Games was very responsive and sent us a brand new board that latches easily. I would recommend both the board and the customer service.

The wood for the board was great and the holes for the pieces were deep enough. However, the little balls for pieces rolled all over if dipped and hard to pick up for my mom with arthritis when she was playing with my daughter. After reading other remarks I thought it would be so bought additional stones. Loved the game board....the best one I saw.

I got the game at target but the board it came with is so tiny and cheap the pebbles don't stay in the holes! Found this board for a good price and ordered it. Shipping was fast and the board is the perfect size and the holes are big so no spilling or issues with playing, yay! The wood is great quality and I love how it closes nice and snug for easy storage and no chance of losing any pieces. Great board for a fun game!

I purchased this set for my children (and me of course!) to play and am highly satisfied. It's a beautiful wood case that when closed holds all of the glass marbles securely in each cavity. Naturally, the little glass marbles can be a little bouncy and hard to retrieve if they bounce out and roll away - but my kids love the marbles. If this is a concern, you could always substitute the marbles for other materials such as stones, beans, seeds, etc.

Great size for taking on trips - not too small, not too big. When I placed this order in early December (intended as a Christmas gift) my expected delivery date was mid-January. In despair, I contacted the seller to ask the status of delivery and received an immediate, detailed response. I resigned myself to the fact it would be a belated x-mas gift but thankful for the quick and kindly response I received. And wouldn't you know it......the game arrived in the mail two days before x-mas (3+ weeks earlier than the estimated time). I was overjoyed.

In summary, not only a great product, but a great seller.

This Mancala game is made of high quality wood. I had been searching for this game in a nicer format than what you typically find in stores. The wood is beautiful and smooth. I was unsure about the hinge, making this a folding board, but it actually works out fine. The inside stones are actually light and dark wooden balls - NOT glass gemstones or stones, as I had expected (and as shown in the photo) - but they work well and fit nicely in the game. My only suggestion would be to have some kind of pouch to store the balls. If you aren't careful, you might open the game upside down and then the balls will spill out.
