I purchased three of these puzzles for my husband for Christmas, and although he has figured them all out, he still has fun fiddling with these things while watching tv. The perplexing X in a box is my favorite because it is a great coffee table item that will keep guests entertained due to its simplicity. The funniest thing was my husband figured out the other two more difficult puzzles within minutes (he's a computer engineer and his brain is good at figuring stuff out), but this particular puzzle totally confused him because although it only takes a couple of steps, there is one particular key factor that you must "figure out" for everything else to move. Of course my English doctoral theoretical self figured this one out immediately because I always look for the "trick" of the imaginary! hahaha...I'll leave it at that 'cause I don't want to give anything away! One last thing: the customer service for Monkey Pod Games is really great, so feel confident in buying their products! I have a feeling this will become a yearly buying tradition for my husband! : )

I purchased several of these for my spouse (but kids love them too) and this was one of the easiest ones making it suitable for young and old alike. Don't get me wrong - it still takes a few minutes to figure out but the simplicity of exactly what makes it fun and yet still challenging. A great intro for brain teasers and puzzles. Solid, large sized and a great conversation starter!

I was plesently suprised by the quality, size, and entertainment value of this toy for the relatively low price. It is not the hardest puzzle to solve but it has a solution that I think is unique. It also looks nice sitting next to other nick nacks. It is also well made with real wood and feels solid and well built.

My kids had a lot of fun with this puzzle (ages 6, 9, 12). My youngest needs a little help to solve it and likes to play with it. Since he did not break it within a month I have to give it 5 stars for durability. I also gave it 5 stars for the education because there are some phyics involved. I wavered between 4 and 5 stars for the fun and overall rating of the toy and decide to go with five stars because you can continue to challenge yourself by improving your solution time and there is more than one way you can solve it and the second solution is harder to execute.

I solved this puzzle within 5 minutes of opening the box. I thought it was SUPER easy, just by being observant.

It is made with high quality wood, and suspect it can deal with a lot of pressure. It is also larger than I thought, so it makes a good item for your office or living room table.

I love figuring a good puzzle like this out, and read many good reviews, but I found it WAY too easy, thus didn't get to enjoy it for long.

Great brain teaser, but my 25 year old son broke it. I guess he didn't realize he had to figure out the secret. Would buy another product but maybe something stronger.

I bought this puzzle out of curiosity. Solution is simple, even though it took me two days to figure out!

I bought The Perplexing X in a Box for my father's 85 birthday...He enjoyed solving the puzzle and then taunting everyone else with it until we gave up and had him show us the solution. It is simple and easy enough for a child while fun and entertaining for adults. I will buy more wooden puzzles from this company. It was well constructed and durable.

I got this so that I could have something fun at my desk when coworkers come over to talk. I like it because it is something big to fiddle with. Some of the similarly priced metal puzzles are only 2 inches across and I wanted something that grabs peoples attention visually. The puzzle factor of this toy is only so-so. The trick is more in the hidden mechanics of the piece than in how you manipulate the shapes, which isn't as satisfying to solve. I solved in about 20 minutes and since then 2 coworkers have played with it and figured out how it "must" work and didn't feel the urge to actually solve it.

Seems pretty durable although being wood one of your hot headed friends could twist it apart if they were trying, but I don't think it would break during any earnest attempts.

I recently purchased this puzzle from Amazon, and recieved it today. I fiddled around with it for a while, but wasn't coming up with anything. My dad tried it before his nap with no success, but had an idea as he was in deep rest. My mom and I were sure he would end up breaking the thing, but what do you know? Before five more minutes had passed we had the puzzle solved! Wow, neat idea, cleverly made. My dad is a woodworker and was able to comprehend how this was made very easily. Still a fun idea, and a puzzle I will enjoy having. For those of you thinking about perchasing this one, go ahead! Its fun. It's a bit trickey though, so be prepared to don your thinking caps!
I also have a level six hanayama puzzle, I'm stilling working on that one!

Overall, this was a decent puzzle. It took a while for me to figure out. It's a good thing to keep on the coffee table. Not one of my favors though.
