Love this light for safety and fun.

Although you have to go pretty fast to see any of the patterns, its still a really fun and cool light for your wheels.

The light is compact, very bright, colorful, and the patterns are great!

As a year-round transportation cyclist (26+ years, 350+ days/year, 6000+ miles/year) I'm vitally interested in safety. I have this theory... (hardly) anybody will deliberately run into me if they see me, but if they don't see me, all bets are off! I wear high-viz during the day, and have lights and reflectors at night.

A bright headlight and a bright, blinky taillight are good for fore-and-aft visibility, but how about from the side? I've always felt a little vulnerable.

Enter MonkeyLights. I ordered a set in February '12 (within a week after the new model introduction). The $50 price tag made me stop and think - that ain't chump change! But is safety worth $50? They arrived quickly, and I had 'em installed within an hour after opening the package. (I opted to use Sanyo Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries - 3 of 'em.)

Mounting was fairly straightforward. There are 2 pieces - the LED circuit board that mounts (sealed in clear rubbery plastic and connected to spokes) near the rim, and the hub-mounted battery pack. A heavy-duty-enough wire connects the two. Everything mounts with zip-ties; it's uncomplicated and took 15-20 minutes. (I installed one set on my 700c front wheel.)

Trial Run - on sidewalks in a neighborhood park. FANTASTIC!! These lights are SO COOL! Traditionally I've done most of my discretionary riding during daylight hours... but since February I've been riding more at night, just to enjoy MonkeyLight coolness! It's particularly enjoyable to ride past other people who fall silent and stare. (I'm glad I don't live in the Big City - I probably would've been mugged for my MonkeyLights by now! Security should be a concern...

Well I got this delivered 31 days ago and just finally got my bike out for the summer to install the light it is DOA. The moment you plug the battery pack in the lights turn on and won't turn off. None of the buttons work and all it does is flash multiple colors nonstop. Contacted Amazon today about returning it for a replacement and they said no since it's one day past the return window. So now I have to go through the manufacture directly. Too bad since I have many of the older units that I bought as refurbished/used/demo from MonkeyLectric in the past that still work perfectly and the new one is a dud. I will update this once ML contacts me back but as of today I give them 2 stars and amazon 1.

**MonkeyLectric responded back the say day with a fix for this issue. So if your unit locks up you can reset it by pressing the power button 4X, then the theme button 4X, then the color button 4X. Wait 10 seconds and then turn off the unit. I did this and it works perfectly. Great customer service from ML, I should have just contacted them first.

I have two of these, mounted on either wheel. They are extremely bright and *everybody* can see you. Seeing as these are quite new what I really enjoy from a safety perspective is drivers will of course see the lights, but they will think they see a pattern or something, they're not quite sure, so, they'll actively look at my bike.

It's great to feel the street at night actively look at me, at my bike. The pecking order seems to change on the road, and I think actually many drivers would be thanking me for making their night drives easier and safer from their perspective, as they certainly don't want to cause an accident. The lights also add to the trendiness or vibe of any street you're on.

One problem, not really a problem but certainly something to be looked at, while the battery enclosure and lighting PCB only weigh 80g, once you attach the 3 AAs there's a noticeable weight difference on the bike (if it's a weight weenie). The rotational weight isn't so bad as it is attached at the hub, but there is a slight imbalance which you would really only be aware of if you had the bike up on a stand and spinning the wheels. I'm going to move the lights across to a commuter or urban bike, which are less sensitive to weight differences.

Overall, get one! It might save your life one day.

I love this light! I got it as part of the kickstarter project for the product, so have been using it for months. The light is compact, very bright, colorful, and the patterns are great! Better yet, for all us America types, is it's made in the USA! How cool is that!

The battery pack is situated at your wheel hub, so it doesn't unbalance the wheel the way some others might, this is a big deal, especially on larger circumference wheels. It still fits on smaller wheels though, I have mine on a folding bike with 20" rims. The whole thing is waterproof. I've ridden in the rain and through deep puddles without any light problems. There are lots of ways to set up the patterns, color cycling, selecting specific colors or patterns.

The light tends to create a colorful "light puddle" that you ride within, so as well as a very visible wheel, the entire area of roadway around you is illuminated. I wouldn't say it's in a spot to be useful for identifying road hazards, but people can _definitely_ see that there's a bike there, and I can be fairly certain that you are the most visible bike on the road. The day a cab driver stopped in the middle of the road to ask me where I got the light was the day I knew it was really working :D

My bicycle motto is: "put your money where it counts - in keeping you alive". Monkeylights help to do just that. I will _always_ have at least one on my bike.
