Eight studies by American and European writers on the relations between Jean Monnet, founder of the European Union, and a wide range of Americans who supported his vision of uniting after World War II. Editorial Reviews

Review

The contributors to this excellent work recount numerous episodes of this long relationship, beginning with the self-assured Jean Monnet arriving in October 1938 on his way to meet Franklin Roosevelt at his private home on New York's Hudson River shore, to the Monnet who, having given up all official posts, continued wworking for Europe through hiis Action Committee for the Unitied States of Europe. These essays recall that, as Henry Kissinger put it, Jean Monnet "mesmerized American's leading statesmen into seeing the world from his own unique perspective. -- Agence Europe, a European-wide news service in Brussels, 1996
