monolith sees amebix sprouting from their groundbreaking crust punk into a sort of crusty speed metal, complete with bluesy solos and a venomous lemmy impersonation. the result is charming, diabolically hooky, and still as lyrically subversive as past material, just with less contextual gloom and more of a sense of energy thanks to the change of compositional environment. the songs are mostly driving anthems, but from the balladic "coming home" to the slow-burning, pre-post-rock (hah!) beauty of "I.C.B.M.", the whole album is an overlooked classic.
