Very Helpful,
By
This review is from: Monologues for Young Actors (Mass Market Paperback)
I found it to be a very helpful book for teenage/twentysomething actors. Because most general monologue books are comprised mainly of material aimed at older actors, I liked that this book focused specifically on younger actors. The monologues were pretty well organized, and there was a variety of light/serious, classic/contemporary etc. The introductions to each monologue were helpful, but succint. Still, I'd advise all actors to read the play before an audition, no matter how helpful the introductions are. Overall I really like the book, and found about 15 monologues that I could use, which is a refreshing change. I also liked that they were directly from plays, and not written soley as monolgoues.

This review is from: Monologues for Young Actors (Mass Market Paperback)
This EXCELENT collection of monologues from classics to contemporary is perfect for teenagers, offering over 30 monologues for each sex with a lot of variety. there is information about the character and the play each monologue is taken from so one can develop the character and have background information. It is practically a steal! Compared to the other monologue books for young actors, this one has the best quantity/quality with monologues from respectable, well-known plays.. BUY THIS BOOK!

a good book for young actors,
This review is from: Monologues for Young Actors (Mass Market Paperback)
I first picked up this book at camp. I was looking for something to preform in the talent show that could doble as an audition peice. As young looking 15 yearold I offten find it very hard to find monolouges that fit my age group. After years of looking I found it. My dream monolouge. It was in this book. While yes, this book does have some monolouges for older children it also has some mature youger ones aswell. (Nothing below the age of a mature 12 year old) However, most of the monolouges have a seious side to them. They are not to be taken as funny monolouges that will amuse people but a serious peices taken from serious plays. If you are looking for a monolouge that will chalenge you this book is for you. if not then look elsewhare.

i bought this book with little experience with monolouges but after buying a few other books this one doesnt even help me. the monologues cant be acted truly because you really dont know what they mean. they're not significant and i wouldn't use any of them for an audition.

Not that bad!,

Although this book may have rebelious, underminiing and dis-respectful monolouges, what you have to relize is that it's theatre, and theatre means acting. The monolouge She Hit Me First shows a truth about siblings, and I honestly think that as young actors, kids should be exposed to this kind of theatre. My High School theatre teacher owns this book, and I bought it to help me, and it has. I now do a great deal of theatre outside of school, and I use this book for audition material.

I have used this several times and just had to buy my own copy. There are various ranges of monologues from comedic, dramatic, classic and contemporary. You are sure to impress the casting director by doing one of these.

I borrowed this book from a friend it was OK but it didn't have a lot of monologues that a 15-year old could use.

Being a young adult actress, I know your acting style reflects your personality. So does picking out monologs. If you take the time to go through a monolog book you notince some monologs that appeal to you right away. Well, this book has something for everyone a monolog from this book got me into a lot of plays, and into my schools drama club!

I feel that this book is and inadequate source for monologes because it doesnt have enough monologes. I feel that it could have been better if it was more pages. I also feel that the authors could have expanded their types of monologes better.

Content May Be Disturbing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Monologues for Young Actors (Mass Market Paperback)
My son's drama teacher uses this book in his 8th grade drama class. As a parent, I was disturbed to find that within the variety of monologs from which to choose, my son could pick monologs that undermine parents, teach manipulation and encourage rebellion! The skit my son chose from this book, was called "She Hit Me First". He worked hard to memorize each and every word, because it was a funny skit and it validated some of his issues at home. He got an A on that monolog, but at what price? Some of you might want to think twice about the content of this book and it's impact on impressionable minds.
