4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty fun overall
I first played this at shockwavedotcom and it was a lot of fun. It can be frustrating at times playing against the computer (the computer seems to have really good luck) but overall it's a nice twist on a classic. Me and me fiancée have played it for hours and had a nice time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good edition
This game is most definitely fixed so the computer can't lose.
My husband and I played this a few times and loved it, but then we noticed when we added computer players that they could not lose a game. They let me beat my husband, or vice versa, but each time the game got to the point where one of us owned the majority of properties with houses on each property,...

This game is most definitely fixed so the computer can't lose.
My husband and I played this a few times and loved it, but then we noticed when we added computer players that they could not lose a game. They let me beat my husband, or vice versa, but each time the game got to the point where one of us owned the majority of properties with houses on each property, the computer players started rolling whatever they had to in order to never land on anything that would make them lose. We checked it extensively; played the game over 10 times and longer than three hours each time to make sure, and the computer players would go around the board over 150 times and EACH time land on only park place, go to jail, or community chest/chance, because our properties with houses were everywhere else. We finally just gave up the game because it's most definitely fixed so that they cannot lose. It's too bad, because it would have been a great game otherwise.
We also noticed quite a few bugs in the game, including letting us view the board but not actually play when we saved a game.

Great game. Would recommend to anyone. Finally, a game where the people you're playing with can't cheat. :o)

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, minus two little flaws, June 5, 2008
This review is from: Monopoly Here & Now (Video Game)
This game is great. Works fine on Xp and Vista.

There are many customizable features. Including:
- the amount houses and hotels
- bail amount
- maximum turns in jail
- income tax amount
- salary amount

You can enable or disable rules to:
- forced auctions
- auction to start game
- double salary for landing on go
- maximum amount of turns

The graphics, game play, game speed and controls are good. There is a complete history of the game. Several games can be saved. Player profiles for all the characters.

This is typically better than the board version. Game play is fast, there is no need for a banker .

Its just all-in-all a good game. However, I have two gripes with Monopoly Here and Now for PC.

1) To play the came the CD must be in the tray.

2) There is a maximum of 4 players, rather than 8 like most monopoly board versions.

Minus these two flaws this game is perfect.

As much fun as the board game, but has an annoying tendency of locking up in the middle of a game, with no way to get it to move. If they release a patch, it would be more enjoyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but has its problems, December 16, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Monopoly Here & Now (Video Game)
I picked this up to replace a much older version of this electronic game. It loaded much better than the 2001 version I had and the graphics are excellent. It is fun to play and enjoy - BUT

It does have some bugs in the software and Encore USA provides no support and is just about impossible to reach in a meaningful way. Its web site has no way to log a problem nor does it offer a patch. Its FAQ on the game is 3 questions long and just about useless. It is a challenge to even find a phone number to call the CA office on and you may as well give up because they put you on hold and never respond to your call.

3.0 out of 5 stars No bells & whistles like the 95/98 earlier version, January 25, 2008

Monopoly still stands as a great game, but this version has no banker stats to look at like the earlier 95-98 3D version. This program does not automatically track any stats on your overall value to determine if paying 10% or $2M tax; it does not track how much money you've earned on each property owned... If you have the 95/98 version then you know what I'm talking about. The developers took the time to create a great game then. "Here and Now" is nothing more that the regular game x's $1M in regards to the property values and who cares about the different tokens.

Great game and I love the animation. The only downside is if you choose to play it on your laptop and wish to play at a remote side, you have to carry along the CD; the game will not play without it! This will be a factor in my next purchase of any game from the company.
