For the price, they cannot be beat. Period.

Are they highest of the high audiophile speakers? They get a little muddy with rapid attack music with lots of notes coming fast, but they are not fully broken in yet.

If you expect audiophile performance at this price point, you are a bit...confused.

I am listening to them, now, and I am telling you, they sound fantastic. REALLY fantastic.

At low volume levels, the bass is lacking. The bass comes in at medium to higher volume levels. Then, you do not need a sub, brother, you do not.

Also -- let them play at low volume and burn them in a for a few hours before you drive them louder. They the DO open up considerably after a couple of hours burn in.

They are not piercingly bright, which is a common sound in small satellites and sub-driven systems. The highs -- all of the detail is absolutely here to hear which you expect from good headphones or speakers. It slides effortlessly into the mids and into the bass, which is ample, and very balanced. If this matters to you, I can tell I am listening to streaming music versus a high quality rip. This is mark of really good speakers -- can a non-elite audiophile tell the difference between highly compressed music and higher quality. I can.

I am buying another set to replace my speakers in my bedroom. These are replacing my very good speakers at the office.

There is no question in my mind that these are speakers are of a much higher quality than the price you are paying. I'd buy them again and I will recommend them to anyone I can.

I got these on a sale to use as the satellite speakers for my system. I was impressed by the performance of these given the price I bought them at. The sound is clean and crisp. I also ended up using these as my fronts for a few days while I was getting them fixed. They seem pretty big but aren't as heavy as some of the other bookshelf speakers I've had. Due to my mistake one of the speakers fell from the wall on a wooden floor...monoprice sent me a replacement within days. Overall I'm very happy with these.

Great value, and easy on the ears. I am using these as rears for my ghetto surround sound and a pair in the garage, and they do both jobs great!!

I needed a pair of inexpensive speakers for a bookshelf. I paired these speakers with a cheap amp and hooked up my iPhone to it via aux audio cable. I plan to pair it with a blue tooth adapter. Anyway, these speakers sound great for the price. I know there are better speakers out there, but these get the job done for me. Plenty loud and clear with the cheap amp. I'm using this just for music from an mp3 player or phone. The speakers are a little big, so check out the dimensions to make sure they work for you. I saw these reviewed on a popular tech website and they were right. These are pretty cool speakers for a really cool price.

Moved my record player away from my TV so I needed some new speakers to connect it to. Bought these along with a $25 amplifier and couldn't be happier. These have excellent sound quality, with solid lows, mids, and highs. Amplifier has separate treble and bass controls, and these speakers respond beautifully to them. These speakers honestly have a richer sound for my records than my TV soundbar did.

Dayton B652 VS Monoprice 8250 (3 inches away from the wall)
Laptop with Behringer UCA202 USB DAC
Speakers are powered by a Sony STR-DH130 (which at $75 refurbished on Newegg has worked out great)
No Sub is being used during any testing.

Monoprice are much louder in the lower mid-range, not muddy but hallow sounding.

Monoprices immediately sound hallow, almost like listening though a tunnel.

The Monoprice however just dogged it on the bass. Even ported, it didn't seem as low as the Daytons could go. Louder maybe, hollow and sloppy for sure.

Overall the Daytons are still very much the winner. They don't seem to possess the artificially strong mid-range, they seem to image slightly better, stereo separation is better. The Monoprices do seem to be louder, probably do to the porting and some level of increased efficiency. I didn't do any high volume listening, but I believe the Daytons will get louder and sound better, the bump in the mid-range the Monoprices have I think will only get more noticeable as the volume goes up. Some song the Monoprice's handled very well, I can only attribute that to accident. I would like to listen to some EDM and Trance to get a comparison, I think that maybe some of the short comings might be less noticeable in different genres of music.

If you really needed a cheap garage speaker the Monoprices wouldn't be bad, they will probably be louder and with vocals seeming to be a up font, sometimes boarderlining on overwhelming maybe they will cut through your band-saw and angle grinder better than others. But if you are making a budget 2.1 system the Daytons win hands down.

You can find more of my comparison between the Daytons and Monoprices here

I was a bit hesitant to order these speakers due to the low price. The reviews, however, made me lean toward getting them, but at the last minute I decided to get something else that cost a little more. Fortunately, as it turns out, the speakers I decided to get were out of stock, so I took that as a sign and went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Monoprice speakers. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved when I hooked them up and pumped some music through them. Sure, they aren't going to set any decibel records, but for my apartment they are perfect. The sound is clear and warm...not tinny like I was dreading. I'm very happy with these speakers.
