Product Description

Keep your iPad, smartphone, PlayStation Vita, and all your other mobile devices fully charged where ever you go with this External Battery Pack and Charger from Monoprice! This external battery measures 4 5/16" x 2 3/4" x 5/8", allowing it easily fit into a pocket or purse. It carries a maximum charge of 5000mAh, so it can fully recharge the battery of any existing mobile phone or tablet and still have charge to spare. To charge your device, simply plug one end of a USB charging cable into the device and the other into one of the two USB ports on this battery pack. One port can provide up to 1 amp of 5 VDC charging power, while the other provides up to 2.1 amps, which is enough to charge the iPad at full speed. Both ports can be used at the same time, but the total power output will be 2.1A, divided between the two ports. The battery pack itself is also charged using a USB power source. Four LEDs on the battery pack display both the existing charge and recharging status. The button on the front of the battery pack is used to check the charge status and to turn on or off the charging output. A 30" USB A male to USB micro-B male cable is included.

I work in IT and am a gadget guy, so I have a bit of experience with extra batteries.

I purchased 2 of these the other day just to have because I live in an area that is prone to losing power when the wind blows at all.
At first I thought these were broken because when I tested them they did not seem to want to turn on. You just have to hold the power button in hard for about 3 seconds and it will charge whatever you plug in.
This was able to charge my friend's iphone to full from 30% on the 1a port at the same time as it charged my iphone (5%) and mophie case (0%) to full in the 2.1a port.
It still had about 25% power at that point which was enough to bring my (notoriously picky about charging) Nexus 7 about 50% higher.
The other one was enough to bring my 17% batt iPad to full charge with some juice left over.

The USB ports on these are offset slightly from where they "feel" like they should be, so getting plugs in is a hassle but I like that as it holds onto the plug very tightly. Nothing worse than a loose USB port.

All in all im so happy with these im buying 2 more to give as Christmas presents.

Having had experience with many similar external batteries for my iphone, i wanted to make sure this was the real deal. I ordered one, charged it and it recharged my iphone about 3 times, recharged and again.

the 2.1 port is very nice for the iphone and charges quickly.

while you do need the cord to charge your device, unlike the smaller ones, the extra benefits ( 2.1 charge, 2 devices at once, ANY device, multi charging) outweigh any smaller gripes.

In the past, i have given smaller versions to friends as gifts for xmas. This year , I'll be giving out these.

simple tricks to remember, plug your device in and then hit the power button to begin charging. Do not charge the battery with an overated usb charger.

look the device up at the manufacturer , monoprice.com for more reviews

I travel a good deal with several devices so was looking for good portable power. This product takes a long time to charge up and despite what other reviewers say i never found it able to fully charge an iPad at all, much less 2 devices at once. A single charge for my iPhone took well over an hour and fully drained the monoprice item. I like the look and feel of it so it's a shame it fails to do what it says it will.

I decided to play homeless in San Francisco last week. I took the train up and used primarily my phone and laptop for work wherever I happened to be.

Like many overpowered phones under heavy use as a camera, credit card wifi hotspot, etc... it got too low by dinner time. That's when I grabbed this battery from my bag, plugged it into my phone and stuck both of them into my pocket. I continued to use the phone the rest of the evening and by the time got home, the phone was fully charged and the battery pack looked like it could've gone three or four more times.

I haven't been able to drain it completely yet, so I'm going to have to try to plan for a longer trip.

I've owned this 5000mAh Monoprice dual USB charging battery pack since Christmas 2012, so that's 1.5 years ago. I do a lot of Geocaching on my iPhone, which is absolutely brutal on the battery since it's constantly using GPS, compass, data downloads for the satellite maps, GPU for panning around those maps constantly, and CPU for constantly rotating the map to point in the direction respective of the compass (so you end up with the ability to literally point the phone to the cache!). Sometimes I also am doing a RunKeeper GPS track recorder at the same time.

This device has been invaluable! Normally my iPhone 5 would run out of battery in 2.5-3 hours of Geocaching, which is far too soon for a big Geocaching event that spans 2 days. This battery pack provides about 3 FULL charges of my iPhone 5, and if you use the 2.1A port, it does so at an incredible rate! It literally feels twice as fast as a normal charge rate.

Basically when I carry this battery pack, it gives me PURE CONFIDENCE that I can use my phone as much as I want and I don't have to worry about running out of battery all day!

The only annoying things are nitpicky - the fact it never gets all 4 blue LEDs "full charge" (a full charge is when 3 LEDs are solid and the 4th one is still flashing...), and the less than obvious requirement of holding down the power button for 3 full seconds before the battery turns on. Hardly a big deal once you know this.

I've had mine for over 3 years. I liked it so much, I bought 2. I like the soft rubbery feel. The nice thing is in order to turn it on to power the device, you need to hold down the power button. This is useful when you keep it in a bag & the power button doesn't get pressed and stays on.

Keep in mind, you need to use good cables. I found some cables will output at under 800 mA, while others will charge above 1amp. I found Monoprice cables to work really well.

FYI, it's better having several battery packs st around 6000 mAh, than a large one (over 15,000), because it will take only about 3-6 hours to charge a battery pack around 6000 mAh, compared to a 15,000 mAh battery, which would take over 12 hours to charge.
