Product Description

Color: Black | Product Packaging: Standard Packaging

With a stylish design and a premium fabric-covered cord, these Monoprice earphones will prompt complete strangers to ask you where you got them, but you won't hear a word they say as you rock on down the highway! Made with a noise-isolating design and producing clear and solid sound, these earphone are a great way to enjoy your favorite music from your iPod or other portable music device. They fit comfortably into the ears and produce solid bass notes and clear midrange tones, both normally a weakness in earphones., thanks to the large 14.2 mm driver unit. The 48-Inch cord is completely covered in fabric, which helps prevent breakages. The gold-plated 3.5 mm stereo plug connects to most popular music devices and phones, with better connectivity and corrosion resistance than the more common nickel and tin-plated connectors. The end result is a pair of earphones that are made for the rigors of daily use from the music fan on the go! Amazing sound clarity, hard-rocking bass, and durability. Who could ask for more? What? You want Aerosmith to play at your birthday party? OK, you CAN ask for more!

First, lets just start with the Cons and get them over with.

- Worst stock tips ever. Monoprice MUST know this, but at $8-$11 price range and how many they sell, no reason for them to change this.

- Odd design. For some people they will just flat out not fit in your ears. For me, it feels like my ear was the original mold. They fit PERFECT (well except for the stock tips).

- Awful Microphonic Cable. Meaning, every time you move the stock cable, you are going to get noise in your ears. Best to sit still using these.

Ok, on to the Pros

*Note* - to get the best sound out of these you HAVE to get aftermarket tips or steal tips from other IEMs you have. Most would say this is enough of a reason to give the 8320 a bad review, but once past this SUPER easy fix, your world will be forever changed, by a $8 IEM.

- Once the ear tips are replace (*Update, I now use the Comply T-400 Tips) the overall Sound Quality will blow you away. Though, I have no idea why these are called "Enhanced Bass" IEMs. They are not bass heavy at all. They are bass neutral. You hear the music the way it was meant to be heard. Not too much bass, not too much Treble or Mids, but just the right amount of each.

- The sound that comes out of these is perfection at a super budget level. They should not sound this good. They should not cost this little. But they do. They really do.

Of course you do not have to believe me. Check out the Head-fi forums and read for yourself. The best trained ears in the world will tell you the same things about these IEMs.

I can see why people give these lower ratings. These are not ready to go right out of the box. They need tips, they need the right shaped ears and to be used when not moving at all. Though once all these requirements are filled, they are 5 STAR IEMS. For me, they are 5 Stars and More.

I recently purchased six different sets of earbuds/IEMs all under $100 (based on online recommendations), trying to find ones that have great sound and are durable.

My tests were consistent between the different sets. I have listened to the same familiar music tracks, and analyzed a swept sine-wave test tone (from 20Hz-20KHz) to compare the musical sound and frequency response. I am an experienced musician and audio engineer (though, my ears are showing some signs of age and "mileage").

What impresses me about the Monoprice 8320's is that they are quite flat and accurate across the whole audio spectrum, except for one noticeable hump around 8 KHz. The bass of the 8320 is a little understated, and won't be enough for folks who want moderately strong bass. However, the bass is adequate in relationship with the rest of the spectrum and showed no resonances at specific frequencies. It extends all the way down to 20 Hz. To my ear the 8320's have a sound is natural, clear, pleasant, uncolored and not "hyped".

It is possible that the reviewers who called these "tinny" might strongly prefer bass-heavy earbuds, may not have gotten a very good fit/seal, and/or may be referring to the bump around 8K. All but one of the earbuds I've tested had that extra presence at 8K-- perhaps that is typical?

For my ears, the 8320 are a little less snug fitting than any of the others I have. The shape of the driver prevents them from being inserted more deeply. It is important to keep the left distinct from the right because the tips are angled and won't fit well when reversed. I marked my right bud with a little red tape. They fit better in the ear if they are oriented so the "shark fin" is on top, and the cord comes out the top-front.

Really not much to risk here, spend the 8 dollars, try them, if you like them great! If not, please follow these steps to troubleshoot:

1. Seal problem
Put them on, with the wires running down (not behind the ear), now gently tap on the wire at your jawbone's level, you should hear rather loud tap sound. This is bad generally but in this case it indicates that your seal is good. Another test is to wear the wire behind your ear, and tap on that same wire and you should hear a much quieter tap sound. If they sound about the same, your earpiece is not sealed. Then dig out any silicon or memory foam tips you may have from other earbuds, if not, I recommend this: Sony EPEX10A/BLK Hybrid Replacement Earbuds . Yes it's almost the same price as these headphones themselves but it'll be worth it. The fitting can be a bit tight, just push really hard and combine with rotating motion to get the fitting right (trying really hard to to keep a straight face)

2. Bass not powerful enough
After you're certain the seal is right, but still want more bass, this is what you do: find the little hole right beneath the earbud silicone piece, no not the pipe-like miracle-producing, there should be another small hole on the ear piece's body. Now find some clear tape, cut in to very small piece, and tape over that hole. Be sure the tape over the entire openning, now try them on again... BAM! (I personally find it too bass heavy this way sometimes, and I listen to quite a bit dubstep/D&B)

Overall, these little guys are great, especially for the price. I own several In-Ears including 400 dollar Shure se530, but this 8 dollar sound almost as good as my Shures.
