The pen also takes a AAA battery... but really?
Angela
The drivers installed fine and the computer recognized the tablet, but I couldn't get any mouse movement.

All in all, I highly recommend this tablet, especially for the budget-minded folks out there.

It was this tablet, or the Wacom Bamboo drawing tablets, which are significantly more expensive. After reading some reviews for the Monoprice tablets, I pushed my skepticism aside and went for it. It's a nice quality, The drawing area on the pad is adjustable using the tablet software, as well as the hotkeys and pen buttons. The surface of the tablet lifts up, so you can slip a picture under it and trace it if you wish. I use FREE GIMP 2.6 for my drawings, and it's fully compatible with the tablet. If you're a drawing enthusiast, there's no taking chances here, it's a good buy!

So i'm all new to the digital art scene and after having serious discussions with friends , i decided to go with this one.
The overview: Like i stated before, i'm new to the digital art thing, and seeing i couldn't use a mouse to do draw i decided to go with the tablet. If you're like me then a heads up, this is something to get use to so take the time to actually play with it and see how it works. For anyone looking into this tablet for anything but drawing i will try to be detailed on the specs. So bare with me here.
I have an ASUS R500V laptop with Windows 8 operating system.

Pros
-Cheap and affordable. Plus free shipping. This was highly suggested for me since i'm a beginner and it wouldn't be that much money lost if i didn't like it.
-This is a decently nice size tablet. A lot bigger than the picture showed. Sp hopefully you got the room.

Cons
- Update 9/24/13 Depending on what drawing program you use the calibration may be off. In my case its Fire Alpaca. If its not the program then it may be the Calibration problems. from the reviews on here i see i'm not the only one with this problem. The pointer, where i believe is the tip of the pen, goes to the area i want to draw on but seems to be drawing below it. Not a fun thing for an artists or anyone trying to make a precision line or write on in a certain area.
-Flismy pen. You really need to be delicate when putting in the battery(AAA for anyone who wanted to know) in, taking off the part to put in the battery and putting it back on once the battery in. They give give you two though and three replacement tips. But i warn you to be very VERY careful when handling the pen
-Trial programs. Which is cool, but have only thirty days to use it before they nag you to buy the full version.

This thing is great. The pressure sensitivity is equivalent to my friend's $400 Wacom tablet, which is unbelievable for the price.
This unit is very light - which is ideal for me, since I'm a student and I need to carry it around a lot, but heavier users should be aware that this product may not hold up under more constant use.
I was also impressed that it came with two pens - however, this may mean that they are a little flimsy. But hey, I'm not complaining for the price tag. So far I have had no problems with this unit and I am completely thrilled.

I can't speak to the person who posted a review before me. But, I will say that on a Mac with dual monitors, I'm able to use this tablet flawlessly. It's specs match up with Wacoms at 3X the price. And there ARE dual monitor drivers for PCs out there. I've never had a problem with Monoprice. Been buying their products for years. This one delivers.

This is the second monoprice tablet that I buy and again was a great buy. Came with two pens. It's a little bit complicated to put the battery, but you will do it once at the beginning and forget about it.
Mine is working with windows 8.1 with no conflicts. Totally recomend it.

I'm a college professor who teaches some online classes, so I'm often on the lookout for a way to make those sorts of classes more like the "real" deal. This is especially the case because of my reliance on a whiteboard in class for illustrating concepts further. Recently I began looking for a budget tablet to allow me to annotate my screencasts, and came across the Monoprice set of tablets.

Granted I don't have much experience with tablets, but this tablet works great for the purpose for which I have put it to use. It is easy to set up and works very well as both a pointing device and drawing tool. It seems to have good sensitivity levels, though your mileage may vary (as my students would attest, I'm not exactly creating art with this thing).

I know others have had some difficulty with the stylus, particularly its fragility when inserting the battery, but I had no such problem. Just be careful when you put the battery in not to bend its metal retaining clip and you should be fine.

All in all, I highly recommend this tablet, especially for the budget-minded folks out there.

I read all the reviews and horror stories and decided to take the plunge anyway. I have an ancient laptop that's about to die and didn't want to spend $$$$ on a high end tablet when I can't afford the high end computer to go with it. Anyway, I had some trouble getting it started. The drivers installed fine and the computer recognized the tablet, but I couldn't get any mouse movement. If you read some of the other reviews, you will see that this is a common complaint. As it turns out, the battery lead inside the pen is very cheap and easy to bend. All I had to do was bend it a little so that it made better contact with the battery. Been working like a champ ever since. Don't know how long this tablet will last, but for $50 it wasn't an entirely bad buy. Here are some of the other complaints I read and my experience with the issues:

Tablet doesn't light up when you plug it in, cursor doesn't move. The tablet won't light up continuously when you plug it in. The light will come on when you apply the pen to the tablet. If you aren't getting any cursor movement or light action, try bending the battery lead inside the pen to make better contact. The pen takes one AAA battery and I received two pens and two batteries.

No replacement nibs. I'm not sure where people were looking, but I got three replacements that were inside the cd envelope.

Also, this device absolutely does not and will not act *exactly* like a pen on paper. I think some people were expecting that and found the device very difficult to use. It also doesn't behave like a traditional mouse, but falls somewhere in between the two. The cursor will move if you are holding the pen slightly above the pad, but not actually touching it.
