the Duo

Chris Brenne – guitar, vocals – Incredibly agile and versatile on the guitar, Brenne attended Berklee College of Music in Boston on scholarships where he randomly picked different degrees and programs until they got tired of him and had him graduate. Ever since, he’s been performing, teaching guitar classes and songwriting, and recording. Brenne recently filmed a guitar instructional DVD that was produced by Q Music in Toronto and his first solo instrumental guitar CD, Lady of the Spice Lands, has been garnering rave reviews on Amazon.com.

Parul Vakani – vocals, keyboard, percussion – Born in India but belonging to the culture of exit 60 off the New Jersey Turnpike, Vakani was trained as a classical pianist and slid through college with a vocal scholarship. She has been performing, songwriting and shaking her egg ever since.

Honors

Red Velvet Slide received Honorable Mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition for Nina’s Song, recorded on Red Velvet Slide, self-titled CD.

Brenne had the honor to perform at Backroom Productions – Guitar Masters Concert Series, Rapid City, SD - March 2002, 2003, and 2004.

A unique fusion of musical styles! Chris's guitar style is smooth, confident and expressive yet often surprising, and Parul's vocals and lyrics show a wide range of color and mood. The sounds are clear and full of color, and their voices sound authentic and present. Love and generosity of spirit come through in every song. Shows growth and evolution of their style since their first CD.

This CD is one of my very favorites - Red Velvet Slide has such great style & talent. Their music is intimate without being sleepy. There is a lot of great energy in every track. I've listened to this disc on road trips, painting a room, and while entertaining friends... it is always the perfect sound. The lyrics will really grab you and the music is incredible. Monsoon is a passionate CD that I highly recommend!
