A very nice travel case.
D. Hentze
Only downside for me is that it clamps a little on my head (I do have a very, very large head), and will heard my ears a bit after a few hours.

Great sound and very comfortable.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I originally wrote this review as a comparative between the Monster Inspiration, Bose QC-15 and Sennheiser PXC-450 headphones. After spending more time with the Monster phones I have decided to completely scrap my original review and focus just on the Monster and Bose comparison. Bose is the "gold standard" of noise canceling headphones so comparing against them makes sense.

The Monster Inspiration headphone set is Monster's first foray into the realm of active noise canceling (ANC) headphones. At the price point ($350 full retail), Monster is putting their new product in very direct competition with Bose, the undisputed champion of ANC phones. It is very difficult to say which headset is better as it really depends on how the phones are to be used. Bose excels on some points where Monster is better at others.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)

When it comes to ANC, there is absolutely no question that Bose implements a much better and much more aggressive solution for ANC. These are the phones against which all others compare and these are the ones that most travelers would want on a plane. When I first turned on Monster's ANC function I was really disappointed as it seemed like they did not really help much at all in noisy environments. However, as I have used them more I have discovered that they do get better. There is apparently truth in the notion that headphones need a "break-in" period before reaching their true potential.

Once broken in, the Monster ANC isn't bad. It does work and it does cut ambient noise such as air handling units and computer fans to some degree, though Bose still filters out more sound.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
As a frequent flyer, I have tried just about every noise canceling headphone on the market. From the Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones to the Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B Active Noise-Cancelling Closed-Back Headphones to lesser known sub-$100 models like Creative HN-900 Noise Cancelling Headphones. Monster is new to the noise canceling headphone market, but by pricing themselves at the $300 level, they are staking claim to the market position held so long by Bose. While my reviews generally don't include price, the price is an important piece of the positioning and must be considered in totality with the package.

I hope you find this review helpful even if it is not entirely positive on the headphones. Many personal choices go into such a big purchase, and my hope is to provide some additional data points to help you make your decision. You can jump to the bottom to see my conclusion, or review each category I evaluated. Since most measurements are subjective to comparison, I used the Audio Technica and Bose QC-15 for most comparisons.

Look:

These are certainly the most fashionable and aggressive looking noise canceling headphones I have seen. Both the Bose and Audio-Technica look like nerdy pieces of technology with gray plastic housing and black bands. The Monster Inspiration look downright cool.

Ok so here's the deal: I've owned over a dozen pair of headphones in my life--Beats, Bose, you name it. Of all the headphones I have, these are, by far, my favorite. The Inspiration's are AMAZING! They have it all, incredible sound, next-generation noise canceling, durability, and a sweet, customizable look. I've always liked Beats, but these blow them out of the water. For one, they last. The Inspirations come with 3 cords, which I Iove. The headbands are thicker too, so they won't break after a month. If I'm spending $300 on headphones, they better last. Sound quality is night and day, too. With my Beats all I hear is bass. Inspirations give you a nice, fluid mix of highs and lows. The sound quality is a lot more rich and detailed, great for any type of music. Wayyy better than anything else I've heard. The noise canceling is phenomenal, as well. When I have on my Inspirations, I literally can't hear anything around me! Great for traveling or a nagging girlfriend. If you're in the market for headphones, these are the ones. They won't let you down! Monster all day!!

I'll keep it simple.

First off, it comes with three detachable cables for the headphones. See product details for more info, and you'll see why this is good. Also, the carrying case is nice. Likely leatherette, but still an elegant touch.

comfortable? build quality?
After break-in, they fit nicely and comfortably. The build feels solid, but also a little heavy. Not a big deal for me.

appearance?
it's not everything, but unlike the beats, they aren't all shine, except the cups themselves. The band is satin finish, meaning no smudges and no easily visible scratches. A plus for me.

How's the sound?
I've heard better, which is why I value them about 200, plus the noise cancellation isn't as nice as BOSE. The lows and highs are nice, and for movies, they're GREAT. If you're into classical, forget it. lows and highs are biased high, which is good for techno, rap, rock, pop, etc. It's $200 sound, but not worth dropping $300 on, but you won't feel sore from the rear by spending 250 either.

IF you're good with an EQ, good for you, but the interesting thing is that if you leave the noise cancellation off, it's close to a flat EQ. kinda nice. I did a sine sweep from 20khz to 20 cycles and it seemed better balanced. Problem is with classical, noise cancellation is going to be needed.

noise cancellation?
It's functional, but as said before, the QC2s are better. They do the job just fine for me though. Turn on the noise cancellation and the sound just explodes. That tells me it's running a small amp in there. That's a good thing IMO. With the TV running a tad louder than usual, my room had a volume of 62db. with the noise cancellation on, it dropped 20db.

sound leaks?
