More About the Author

Tony Strauss has been writing about cinema in print and online for nearly two decades, beginning as a contributor to the legendary Scarlet Street magazine. His existence as that rarest and most annoying of creatures--an artsy-fartsy movie snob who loves trash cinema (yes, it's possible)--often leaves him as the odd man out in both intellectual and low-brow film discussions. Most movies that people describe as "boring" or "confusing" enthrall him, while the kinds of movies that are described as "non-stop action" usually bore him to tears.

In early 2013 he joined the editorial staff of cinema 'zinemeisters Brian Harris' and Tim Paxton's newest creation, Weng's Chop magazine--which continues to rapidly gain momentum in the realm of independent cinema publications--and has found true bliss. He has a BFA in Film, but don't hold that against him.

I just received my copy of MONSTER! and it's gorgeous zine. I contributed to this issue so I can't fairly comment on the content but I can say this issue is worth every penny. The cover, interior and layout are all top-notch. Tim Paxton is most definitely back! Recommended.

Tim Paxton revives his old zine from the 90's and gives it a very professional look. This zine only reviews movies from around the world with monsters in them (many you never heard of before), so this is an essential purchase for monster film fans.

If you like monster movies, especially lesser known and foreign ones, you'll find that this small magazine is packed with fascinating reviews of stuff you may never have heard of. But the writers give you such a nice compact synopsis of each movie, you may find yourself wanting to watch them. And they nicely put a list near the back giving info on which ones are available and what format they're in - though it may require some digging to actually find them.
But a great little guid nonetheless, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of them.

A great magazine for people who grew up "Monster Kids". Very reminiscent of Famous Monsters, but with a more serious overtone. A well done, digest sized magazine that covers monster films (they have to have a monster in them) that covers films I've heard of and never heard of. Great buy!
