Clear Signal,
By
This review is from: Monster Wireless Fm Transmitter (Electronics)
I tried a radioshack brand transmitter first, but it was too staticy for me to want to keep it. I returned it and picked up this one. The signal comes through clearly in the south of Boston area. It seems to work well even when there's a competing signal (I don't have to switch stations on a long drive).

Bought this item because my truck has no cd player and the cd player in my car is dying.
Am using with an mp3 player and very satisfied. It's very well designed- the piece that plugs into the cig. lighter outlet is nice and small(I previously owned another brand and the piece was very large and awkward). That's because the power unit and the transmitter itself are separate, so both are small. Everything, including my mp3 player fit into one cupholder right below the power outlet. The transmitter couldn't be much easier to use, just click to change frequencies if you need to, then adjust the car stereo to match. Can't vouch for the long-term reliability yet, but keeping my fingers crossed- the other brand that I owned didn't last long, so I'd suggest handling one of these things very carefully. Basically, if your car speakers are good and the radio works, there's really no need to buy a new stereo unit- just buy this unit for $20 and plug it into your mp3 or portable cd player. For those who don't understand how these work, it just converts your cd or mp3 player signal into a radio signal that your car stereo picks up and plays.

Provides very good radio transmission. The sound volume is a little lower than regular radio station, and the sound has less fidelity than the regular FM station, but it's very close. The cigarette lighter plug is great for placement.

Good for a few months,

I got this item in January. I was really pleased with the clarity in my area, only having to change the station occasionally. By the beginning of May, it started to play thru only one speaker. The wires had, apparently, come loose. If I jiggled it and set the Zune in a certain way, it would play fine. Now it doesn't play at all. I am really disappointed, but gave it a 3 for the fact that it worked well for 3 months!

Review of Fm Transmitter,
This review is from: Monster Wireless Fm Transmitter (Electronics)
I found this fm transmitter to be quite good. I was skeptical at first since I already had a more expensive one that worked really good. I needed a second one though that didn't cost as much. I was worried that I would lose a lot of the quality of the higher price one. However this one worked out fairly well. The only drawback is that you have only 8 stations to select from whereas my other one I had the choice of the whole spectrum. However, so far one of the 8 has always worked and came in clear. I would say that it is very good for the price.

I was surprised at how well this FM transmitter works, especially considering the low price. Of the 8 stations to choose from, 3 come in crystal clear 99% of the time. My only complaint (and this isn't a very big one) is that the station numbers aren't backlit. I'm mostly in the car at night, so it's practically impossible to see what station the transmitter is on without turning on a light. But considering how well it works (and how cheap it is), this problem seems really minor.

I cannot speak for those who live near big cities, but this item works great in the suburb area where I live and sounds so much clearer than my older fm transmitter did and that one cost $50. It works in the 10 plus cars I have tried it in and it has no issue with my laptop sound or my ipod touch.

I've had this item for about a week now. The product is very easy to use. Opened up the package, plugged it in, set to the right stations, and pressed play on my mp3 player. The reception is pretty good with minimal static. I also live south of Boston. When going under tunnels that's probably the most static I get in my area. My biggest complaint about this product is the low volume level it produces. It is about half the volume you would get from a regular station, so I have to turn my car volume setting fairly high to hear the song lyrics clearly. I've also noticed that the vocals in all the songs sound a bit lower than usual compared to the instruments. It could just be for me, but I get the same problem with an ipod shuffle and a sony mp3 walkman. So overall I think the price is decent for a Monster brand product, and it does what it's supposed to. I would've given 5 stars if not for the volume problem I'm experiencing.
Pros: Ease of use, illuminated frequency switch Cons: Low volume output, possible decrease in song quality, have to remember to shut off your mp3 player to prevent battery loss.

I get a lot of static with this connected to my Zune in the car.
It was pretty cheap though, and it does work, just not as good as I would have hoped. I really need a new stereo that has an audio-in plug; this works through the radio, but does not sound nearly as good as a tuned in radio station. I got the Zune cranked up to 20, and my stereo louder than usual to get to my average volume. It sounds pretty lousy. If your really gripping to get tunes going in your car or boat, go for it. If your looking for high quality, keep looking. This is mediocre at best.

This unit worked well especially if you turn up the volume on your mp3 player all the way and down on the car radio.
