5.0 out of 5 stars If you've got the cash then this is the best option
If you want the highest possible quality for your Playstation II then this is the item to buy. 1.0 out of 5 stars Buy the Gamelink 400 instead.
By purchasing this cable set, you are limiting your options. You now must use your A/V receiver for sound whenever you play a game because you loose the analog sound connection you have with the 400 (the analog sound comes out of the same port as the video). Spend the 10 dollars you save on an inexpensive optical cable and you now have the best of both worlds, you have...

If you want the highest possible quality for your Playstation II then this is the item to buy. Note: It consists of two separate items: A 3 corded COMPONENT Monster cable that hooks into your PS II's main game port, and a DIGITAL AUDIO Monster cable that hooks into your PS II's separate DIGITAL AUDIO port.

This is important because you don't have to buy these two items together if you don't want. If you already had a digital audio cable you could use that instead and purchase a different PS-II COMPONENT CABLE (that didn't have an audio cable with it). Or, if you just wanted to save some money you could buy a non PS-II branded DIGITAL AUDIO cable like the "Monster Cable THX-Certified Fiber Optic Digital Interconnect Cable (4 Feet)" [Product Number: B00006JKW5] -which, by the way, I use and have no regrets purchasing. Then, you could buy the 3 corded COMPONENT Monster cable for the PS II separately -specifically the "Monster Cable GameLink 400 Component-Video Cable for PlayStation 2 (10 feet)" [Product Number: B0000524PB]. This is the same as the product above (which is technically "a kit") but is not bundled with the digital audio cable.

NOTE: This does NOT go the same for X-BOXes. If you are looking for a similar type of cable for an XBOX you MUST buy the X-Box branded Digital Audio cable -because the cable (which is a standard Digital Audio cable) has to plug into a proprietary connector, which THEN plugs directly into the proprietary X-Box COMPONENT cable (not the box itself), that you can ONLY get if you buy the X-BOX branded Digital Audio cable. The PS II, on the other hand, has a generic Digital Audio port that you can plug any Digital Audio cable into -it doesn't need any adapters. Thank you Sony!

Finally, if you like the look of the COMPONENT cable for the PSII, but don't have the capability for Digital Audio on your TV or receiver, there is one more option. Try the "Monster Cable PGL400 CVAA-10 GameLink" instead [Product Number: B00006345I]. It is the exact same Monster PS-II COMPONENT video cable except that it has 5 cables instead of 3 -the extra 2 cables are standard Monster Analog Audio cables which will work with all TVs.

The difference between the composite video and this cable is amazing. It actually took a while for my eyes to adjust to how sharp and vivid the games were. You can't go wrong with Monster Cables.

5.0 out of 5 stars love it, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Monster Cable PGL450CV/DV GameLink 400 Kit (Personal Computers)
I didn't have high expectations from this product since i've barely discovered what component is compared to composite... so i was under the impression it wouldn't be that much different right? WRONG! while it's not xbox 360 quality it certain did step it up a notch. i have a widescreen lcd and the composite video the ps2 originally came with, the video looked rather soft and blurred (i blame the lcd set stretching the image) however with this component video cable, the picture is alot sharper, actually so sharp and vivid i had to turn the sharpness on the lcd down. Well i haven't had any experience with the one from sony or mad catz or whatever else there is so i can't be certain it's monster's quality materials that make this such a good investment. however the sony and mad catz look cheap, no monster product ever does. maybe that's why they charge so dam much.

i'm happy with it, i'd be even happier if i coulda got it for less

This kit has greatly improved my gaming experience. Monster Cable is such a quality product. The picture is much clearer and crisp and the audio sounds awesome, especially hooked up to surround sound. I wish the cables were a little shorter. But if you're someone that has to have the unit right by your feet, you will enjoy the amount of cable that is supplied. I will be looking to use Monster Cable for all my future gaming needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome cables, October 27, 2007
This review is from: Monster Cable PGL450CV/DV GameLink 400 Kit (Personal Computers)
Great cables, picture, and sound. However, what they won't do is turn a PS2 into a PS3. So sorry gamers, to get HD gotta go PS3. These cables are not the miracle cure but they do make PS2 games look and sound great on an HDTV all things considered. Plus, it's better than shelling out several hundred bucks for the PS3. Although Sony is coming out with a new PS3 priced at $400 on Nov 2nd, but it only has a 40GB hard drive and isn't backwards compatible with PS2 games. So, if you have an extensive library for replay value then you'll have to go with the 60 GB model or wait for the price to drop again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy the Gamelink 400 instead., November 4, 2005
This review is from: Monster Cable PGL450CV/DV GameLink 400 Kit (Personal Computers)
By purchasing this cable set, you are limiting your options. You now must use your A/V receiver for sound whenever you play a game because you loose the analog sound connection you have with the 400 (the analog sound comes out of the same port as the video). Spend the 10 dollars you save on an inexpensive optical cable and you now have the best of both worlds, you have the option of using the tv for sound OR the A/V receiver with the same quality video. I will say that the video quality on my 62" HDTV improved dramatically with the addition of the component (red, green, blue) video Gamelink 400 over the composite (one video cable) connection that comes with the PS2. However if you're the kind of person who thinks the 450 MUST be better because it's a bigger number than the 400, it probably won't matter to you anyway...

If you have a AV system capable of component video and optical digital audio this is a must have. My kids just loved it! The picture was crisp and clean and playing various games in Dolby Prologic ][ sound was very cool!
