1.0 out of 5 stars Optical adapter doesn't work
I bought the cable just for the adapter, thinking it should be better than the Microsoft product. Unfortunately, the adapter doesn't work and I already own a good HDMI cable, so I will return the product tomorrow. Can't judge the cable, but it looks of great quality as all Monster Cable products. Before I purchased this item I read the reviews and product description to see what was included in the packaging but could not get a definitive answer. The GameLink comes with two things: HDMI cable and device for using Optical Out for surround sound. I had no problems installing the product and it worked perfectly.

The HDMI cable is of good quality and should be fine for most applications. It is not the M series line but probably a couple of lines below the M series. If you already have an HDMI cable and an HDMI 1.3a compliant receiver then you do not need this product. The last statement assumes that the Xbox is already 1.3a compliant. I am assuming that older versions of the unit are not but would assume that the newer units that are being delivered now are - but I have no way to test this.

For those of you that do not have a HDMI 1.3 switching receiver you will need the added Optical Out to continue to get 5.1 sound. In other words, if you want to use your Xbox to play games or watch movies in surround sound you will need to plug in the Optical Out and run an optical cable from your xbox to your receiver. This device plugs in where you usually plug in the A/V cable.

If you already have an HDMI cable, optical cable and the Component A/V cable you may not need this product either. I have read some blogs that you can build your own optical out device by cutting off your old A/V cable and plugging your optical cable directly into it. I did not do this so I have no idea if it works. If you are feeling resourceful then this may be the route for you.

For me, I bought this product because it was a one stop shop. I am very happy with my purchase but would have liked to have been able to buy just the Optical adapter since I already have additional HDMI cables laying around collecting dust. After installing, make sure that you make changes in the Xbox dashboard to reflect what video output you would like (720p, 1080i, 1080p) as well as audio out.

I hope this helps.

It really didnt make any kind of a difference using this "gaming" hdmi cable vs a normal hdmi cable. The shipping and packaging was great and fast but the product is not worth the time. The optical adapter is faulty also

I read alot of reviews talking about how the optical cable adapter doesn't work, and I have no idea what they're talking about. I bought this and the optical adapter worked just great. I know that even with my old cable I had to make sure my TV settings were set for the speakers to be external rather than the internal speakers. Don't know if that was the problem with others, but both HDMI cable and optical adapter work great. Not to mention this is like [...] bucks cheaper than [...].

HDMI cable is superb. However, I also cannot get the optical cable adapter to work correctly. I ended up using the adapter that came with the 360 Elite, which has no issues working at all. I'm even using the monster optical cable for the 360. Works fine for the Elite adapter but no sound comes out for the Monster adapter.

This item hit the bill. There are none better. As the old saying goes, you may be able to purchase cheaper modles, but you get what you pay for. Even so, the price of this item cannot be beat outside of Amazon.

Hey its a great product, the extra adapter for the optical is very small, and blends well. It is smaller than the adapter that comes with the Elite 360. Great product, great price, and very good performance!

After you throw away the blister-pak, the cable is just stamped Lextron (NOT Monster). After hours wasted by this defective cable I looked and looked until I found this cable so I could warn other consumers NOT TO BUY. It is labelled Lextron on both connectors. As well as I recall it was marked "Monster" only on the top copy in the blister pak -- nowhere else, so I have doubts it is a "Monster" cable.

I bought the cable in November in anticipation of moving to Hi-Def equipment during Christmas season. When we got our Hi-def TV and Blu-Ray disc player, this cable was used from the Blu-Ray to the TV. Both devices gave error messages from the outset, but being new to hi-def and networked devices (both the TV AND Blu-Ray Disc Player have built-in internet applications such as Netflix and Pandora)connected to the internet via new dual band Netgear router and new comcast cable modem, I ignored the error messages. Turns out the error messages were all due to this cable.

Eventually, the Blu-Ray would not even "wake-up" until I got down under the equipment and wiggled the cable connector. I still didn't put it together as the cable (I thought the blu-ray player was just lo-end or defective since I paid only $120 @Costco). Then, a week ago I purchased a top-of-the-line Yamaha RX-A3000 Receiver. This receiver refused to play at all with the Blu-Ray input. To test whether problems were caused by this Monster/Lextron cable I whipped out a $7.95 Amazon Basic HDMI cable - replaced the Monster Cable and all error messages and no play problems were IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED!

Avoid this blister-packed piece of crap. You will be glad you saved yourself the frustration.

BTW - bought my son-in-law a Roku box for Christmas. Also ordered the $7.95 AmazonBasics High Speed HDMI Cable (6.5 Feet / 2.0 Meters) - Supports Ethernet, 3D, and Audio Return [NEW MODEL]. The Roku box was making a popping sound when playing back streaming video. The "pop" would occur about every 2-4 minutes. We called Roku support. They suggested flipping the cable around (that is changing the direction of transmission of the HDMI cable). I laughed at that, but we did it, and voila - PROBLEM SOLVED.

Just goes to show how twitchy this whole HDMI endeavor can be.

BBTW - during this whole frustrating mess, I called the major manufacturer of both the BD (blu-ray disc player) and matrixed LED hi-def TV for troubleshooting help. Since the major manufacturer had "special" high speed HDMI cables from $49.95 to $79.95, I thought maybe with my top of the line equipment, I needed expensive cables. After all, just a few years ago HDMI cables were $70-100. During the conversation regarding the BD Player, I asked the tech support guy, "Does it matter whether I spend $8 or $80 on an HDMI cable, as long as it is HDMI 1.4 capable?" After a looooong pause, tech support guy said, "not really."

So SAVE YOUR $$$$$$. Amazon Basics Cables/Components will do the job you need them to do!
