Customer Reviews

Very well built and the sound is great.
In addition to the carrying case and cords, there is a little spray bottle of "Monster Shine" and a soft cleaning cloth to keep the headphones looking their best.

I love these things, and if for some reason they ever went bad and I couldn't replace it, I know for a fact I'd just buy another pair.

While I am not familiar with the Korean pop music scene, I am quite a music lover and know my headphones. While I normally wear a pair Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B Active Noise-Cancelling Closed-Back Headphones, these Diamond Tears Edge looked so interesting that I had to try them. They are entirely passive with no noise canceling capabilities, but as you'll read, I almost didn't notice. There are many ways to evaluate headphones - sound, comfort, utility, value, and look. With most headphone reviews, I would start talking about the sound. In this case, I must first describe the look.

Not a single photo in the gallery encapsulates how beautiful these headphones are to see. I was expecting a sort of plastic-diamond over the headphone, and was amazed at how the coating actually appeared to glimmer and change color as it caught the light. This not tinted plastic, but rather created by vapor deposition procedures, the same methodology used for creating reflective coating on astronomical mirrors. I was tipping them back and forth for awhile just admiring the color. These will get you compliments anywhere you wear them, but are surprisingly not "over the top" in shine. They look sharp. Complementing the pinkish-glimmering diamonds are solid white-leather ear cups that cradle your ears.

One note on fashion - the primary color of these is "pink on white". In US fashion, these would likely be seen as a woman's color, but that would definitely vary based on culture and country. There is a black diamond color coming that I saw on YouTube which I expect will be very popular in the US when it is introduced.

The "Diamond ("Music with the clarity of diamonds") & Tears" headphones by Monster, are the best headphones I've ever owned. They are first rate in every way. According to the box, these headphones were "Inspired and musically directed" by JYP (Park Jin Young), founder of South Korean record label JYP Entertainment Company, Ltd, once the home to artists such as Rain, Park Ji Yoon and Byul, G.O.D. The label's current roster of recording artists includes Wonder Girls, 2AM, 2PM, Miss A, JOO, San E, MBLAQ, 8eight and JJ Project.

The first impression is very positive as a result of the sleek, black, plastic wrapped, Apple-ish box, which opens like an immense jewelry clam shell. Everything has been thought out. It comes with cleaning supplies to maintain the gorgeous, shiny, faceted, diamond (plastic) studded, tear-shaped ear pieces, which are lined with the softest white leather. Also included are three clear plastic coated, low tangle cables - 1. a basic cable, 2. a cable with an in-line control talk (for I-Phones), pause (one click), no talk, clicker, and 3. my favorite, a cable like #2 but with the ability to advance to the next track (two quick clicks), increase or decrease the volume, and go back a track (three quick clicks).

The headphones also include a cloth drawstring "touring" bag located behind the top of the box. Pull on the cloth tab to pull the back away from the top of the box to reveal the bag (and the instruction manual in a dozen languages!). The earphones have an input port on both sides. You can chose which side to insert the cable, or someone else can insert their cable and listen along with you.

I have a huge head (8 1/2") with which I prove on a regular basis that with head gear like baseball caps, bike helmets, etc.

So these are actually my first pair of on-ear headphones, all the ones I've owned in the past being the apple earbuds or Beats earbuds. My long-suffering pair of Heartbeats broke a couple of months ago and after trying a pair of these in a store, I was instantly sold, more for their sound than their looks but let me be clear, these look like no other headphone out there.

The sound on these is incredible and well balanced. Most headphones I've owned have either the problem of not enough bass or too much thumpy, exaggerated bass. Not so with these- there's plenty of clean, thick bass but not to the point of "thudding" and overpowering the treble and the mids. It fits well, especially for pop or music with neutral levels. For metal music, the balance might be a downside for some, but this doesn't bother me any because I doubt hardcore metal heads would be into a headphone looking like this.

Which brings me to the style: nothing prepared me for actually wearing these. I live on a smaller Western American college campus and as far as I've seen, I'm the only one with a pair and they're quite an attention getter. If the sunlight catches the diamond studs on the earpieces at just the right angle, your head becomes a shimmering prism disco ball.... You should be prepared for plenty of looks and compliments and envious glares if you wear these in public. Maybe a girl could pull the look off better, but I'm a guy rocking pinkish crystal headphones and I love it.

If there's a downside to these headphones it would be the comfort. The earpieces are soft but for my large ears, they get a bit uncomfortable after a while because of the tight fit and the stiff headband- after a few days of wearing and stretching them it got better.
