My First Monster,

It's a monster cable for 20 bucks so I guess you would expect it work flawlessly; it does. Maybe the product has changed since it last got reviewed by the May 2006 reviewer, but mine came with the Toslink adapter. Not sure what to do with it though, didn't need it. The monster cable plugged right into the stock XBOX 360 adapter. The Toslink adapter that is included is probably required if you bought the other Monster XBOX 360 Component cable set. Not sure.
Anyway, if you want to plug a digital cable into the stock xbox 360 adapter and into a music system, this'll probably do the trick. The price is great too. A regular 4' fibre optic cable is retailing for $30.

After I received this product I was a little surprised to see how this cable was packaged. The way that the cable is placed in its packaging caused a kink in the cable. This is a little bit of a concern for a fiber optic cable since light needs to travel on a straight path and any kinks in the cable can affect sound quality. Monster Cable should know this better than most and Im surprised their quality control hasnt caught or corrected the packaging faux paus (sp?). I was eventually able to straighten the cable after repeated attempts of bending the cable in the opposite direction. But this is not a good idea either as it may cause further problems for some people if theyre not careful enough. Anyway, after I straightened it out and plugged it in, it seemed to work fine. Overall, the quality of the cable is good, it was just irritating to see a kink in a fiber optic cable after unpackaging it.

A Must Have for the 360,

As the description says, a fiber optic cable is the only way to get the surround sound out of your 360. This is true not only for the games, but also for DVD playback. With this cable, my 360 has not only replaced my original XBox, but my DVD player as well. If you have a receiver that has a DTS decoder in it, you can play your DTS movies through the 360. I tested "The 5th Element" on the DTS track, and it sounded crystal clear, as did "Call of Duty 2." The cable is THX certified which ensures the best quality sound you can get on the market. If you want to use the speakers on your TV, fine. If you want the full 360 experience, get this cable and hook it up to your surround sound. You will not be sorry.

I bought the Monster component cable to replace the stock cable that came with the 360. The stock cable has a toslink out on the cable. The Monster brand has a proprietary connection instead of a toslink(1/8th mini jack). So if you want digital audio(and you do if you sprung for the Monster component cable), you are REQUIRED you to buy their optical cable in order to get the mini jack to toslink convertor.
Needless to say, that is low, and yet typical of the overrated/overpriced Monster brand. Since these are the only high end A/V cables for the 360, and do make a difference, it's worth it, but beware of this.

This is a required purchase if you bought the Monster Cable VGA cable or component cable for the 360 and you want digital audio. They have a custom jack on the side of their component or VGA cable that requires an adapter unlike the Microsoft ones that have a standard Toslink jack. Buying their optical cable is only way to buy the adapter. Fortunately the prices are reasonable and for the price of a standard cable you get the adapter jack for free. Basically its a way for them to make more money off of you because there really is not a necessity for this. Its rumored that the older adapter that comes with Toslink cable for the original Xbox also works with this jack.

I just bought this cable to go with the XBox 360 I knew I was getting for Christmas. I shopped for quite a while before finally deciding on this particular cable only because I was afraid that Monster was trying to advertise to a specific console to increase sales and not because it had been designed to work well with an XBox. However, curiosity won over trepidation and the wariness of buying any cable product that caters itself to a single component faded. I'm very displeased to say that it all came flooding back tenfold after trying to stick this thing in my XBox. Don't get me wrong, it is an optical cable and it does it's job as far as carrying a signal. My complaint is that it doesn't stay connected to the port in the console. Although I've limited technical experience I have noticed over the years there are certain points crucial to a good quality cable... connectivity being the first. The cable simply does not stay in it's port securely. It wobbles back and forth, does not connect flush against the back of the console and disconnects itself way too easily. So to this inconvenience add the annoyance of stiffness and inflexibility (compared to it's competitors) and Monster has successfully convinced me that their cable "exclusively licensed for XBox 360" is as I originally presumed, a marketing tool and nothing more. The only box I care about now is the one the thing arrived in because its going to get used for this disappointment's return.

I plugged this cable into my stereo receiver within seconds of removing a lower cost cable (Radio Shack brand. Since I purchased it they no longer carry that brand. Now they sell them under another name. It was supposedly high quality according to the description on the package.) The difference was huge & immediately noticable. The sound had much cleaner highs, the lows were deaper & overall the volume was around 5 decibels louder. All the haters writing that the cables don't make a difference are just trying to justify being cheap. Anyway, the cables cost so much less on Amazon than in stores that they ARE AFFORDABLE & worth every penny! I also had my son, 15 years old, listen to the old cable, then listen to the new cable. He said WOW! That sounds so much better & louder than the Radio Shack cable. He didn't buy it so he was unbiased about whether or not he got his money worth out of the cable. He was impressed & so was I.

I bought this shortly after getting my Xbox 360 Elite for Christmas in 2008, mainly wanting 5.1 audio for Halo 3. Well, it improved the sound by a ton--the bass is much boomier, the audio in general is clearer, and I'm no longer having a stereo signal go to faux surround sound.
I love this cable, and while people say not to buy Monster cables 'cause of price, I'm now considering buying Monster Cable GameLink 360 Standard HDMI Cable GLX360 S HDMI-6 - Game console audio / video cable - HDMI - 19 pin HDMI (M) - 19 pin HDMI (M) - 6 ft because the stock cable is no longer functional!
