This review is from: Monster GameLink Standard 100 Composite/S-Video A/V Cable for Xbox (6ft.) (Personal Computers)
I tried the cables on regular Toshiba 32" and the increase in clarity was noticeable. However, there were still a few scanlines across the screen and it didn't transform my TV in HDTV. I didn't expect it to, either. However, playing games like Halo were easier to look at for long periods of time. It's just noticeable to the point where you feel that it's cleaner and clearer(and no, it's not pyschological - there is actually a small difference in picture quality), but you'd be hard-pressed to tell which one was which at just a glance.
That small increase *is* an improvement, though. A cheap increase in video clarity for a small price (no upgrading your entire entertainment center - just plug and play) sounds right to me. The ease of setting it up and the cheap cost of the cables along with a noticeable (read: not spectacular, but nice enough to make a difference) increase in clarity, cleansiness, and colors make this an attractive purchase if you don't want to spend much money. ...Or kill yourself over an entire entertainment center.

This cable is a good way to improve your connection for clearer video and offers the flexibility of both composite and s-video. I immediately saw a cleaner picture with less distortion of text and textures in game. Maybe it's not the top of line or even midrange, but it's a economical way of improving your video at half the price of the next level cable MonsterCable offers.

(this is not a toy review) I bought this Xbox s-video monster cable because I thought that it would increase the clarity and detail of my games. I haven't noticed an increase in clarity, at all. Well, maybe slightly, but the increase is negligle. If you have Component inputs for your television, I would get the component Monster Xbox cables instead. Also the other cables Monster offers (the component ones) have digital outputs for an optical cable they sell; why this xbox s-video cable doesn't include the same functionality is beyond me. I feel somewhat gypted by these cables. Don't get them. Waste of money and time. If you don't have component input on your tv, then make sure the next tv you get has component video. 1/27/04 |
