My daughter and her friends play with these dolls a lot. We have five of them and none are broken despite all the play. However, they do not bang or throw them about. These dolls are "different" and interesting. They take the "horror" theme and put it in playful fun. I like removing the fear from monsters and making them playful. We have not experienced any problems with them. Our only challenge was finding some of them.

Holt Hyde is Jackson Jekyll's music loving other self. Whenever seemingly innocent Jackson hears music his hair ignites and he turns into this blue guy. Holt's hair is hard plastic and it really does look like fire. He wears purple and black striped pants and a red pleather jacket that looks like something Michael Jackson wore back in his Thriller days. He comes with a cool backpack that looks like a record player, a funky pair of headphones with the Monster High skull logo on both sides, and a ring on his thumb. He also has an eyebrow piercing, a yellow belt, and a yin yang tattoo on the back of his neck. His pet chameleon Crossfade matches his fiery coloring and is very cute. Holt does not come with the orange shutter shades that are pictured. Those shades are packaged with the Gloom Beach Jackson. My daughter thinks this doll is a really cool guy but still likes her Jackson doll better because he has regular doll hair.

I am sure glad I picked this doll up while he was easy to find! I found him at Toys R' Us some time ago and thought I would give him a review because he is (so far) my favorite out of the Monster High boys. I never would have expected the price of this toy to skyrocket like it did but when you see him you will understand why he became so popular. Had I known, I probably would have left him in the box but OH WELL! Since I make doll clothing and furniture, some pricy collector's item which has to remain boxed doesn't really do me any good and just sits on a shelf. I often alter the dolls themselves too but in Holt's case, he really didn't need any "work" done because he is an awesome looking doll to begin with.

Holt has bright blue skin and fiery looking hair made from a slightly translucent bright orange molded plastic. He is dressed like a real "tough guy" with a red leather jacket and flames on his pants. In spite of Holt's bad-boy image, his character is actually very upbeat, outgoing and is all about fun and music. In the cartoons he is supposed to be a DJ so he comes with his own turntable. He also comes with a pet chameleon named crossfade and I have to say it's the cutest Monster High pet ever and really LOOKS like an actual chameleon. Great job on the detail! The doll also comes with a doll stand, a diary and a pair of sunglasses. He didn't come with a brush but since the hair is plastic, you can't brush or style it so he has no need for one.

Another interesting fact about this character is that he is the SAME guy (technically) as Jackson Jekyll (get it? Jekyll/Hyde?) and much like his famous father, he has two personalities. Jackson is a shy, sweet nerdy type of guy and his alter ego Holt is wild, loud and loves music, people and parties. In the cartoons Jackson transforms into Holt whenever he hears music. I have both dolls and an interesting thing to note is they have the SAME yin-yang tattoo on the upper back...Yeah parents, many Monster High dolls have tattoos and I think that is fun and awesome! Lots of parents these days have tattoos too, so I doubt this is a big deal to most people but this is a detail worth noting for those who might want to avoid tattooed or wild looking toys. If you don't like dolls that are a bit on the wild side, buy a "wholesome" looking Ken doll and not Monster High!

I personally think the Holt Hyde doll is HOT! He really is (in my opinion) the cutest out of the Monster High boy dolls. He scores big originality points for his unique appearance. The doll is also quite photogenic and will really "pop" in a variety of scenes because of his bright coloring. This is a GREAT doll for all of you artists and crafty people out there. Holt is such a unique looking doll that he is bound to spark the imagination of kids, collectors and hobby fanatics like me. He is not worth paying some insane price for but if you can find this doll for the right price, he won't disappoint! I found the doll to be even MORE awesome looking in person than in photos. I hope they release another version of Holt for all the people who were not able to pick him up the first time!
