Had to start over more than once when "tools" failed to work.

My daughter thought this toy/project was fun but at age 9 it required alot of 'mom' help and normally she does this sort of thing independently.

I put some of the pieces together wrong and couldn't get them apart.

Parents beware, if you buy this kit, you will be assembling it almost entirely yourself! My daughter received this for Christmas. All the pieces were there and the instructions, were clear enough-lots of picture examples and few words. There are 6 pieces to assemble each head, six pieces to assemble the torso, plus the 3 piece hand assembly, 3 piece leg assembly and the hair with the keychain attachment.

Our first problem came with the first head assembly. The way it works is to place a piece of cloth over the mold, place the first head assembly piece into the top part of the press and then mash top part into the bottom part which is supposed to cause the head piece to press into the cloth and fit the cloth tightly around it. The problem is you have to place the cloth EXACTLY centered in the EXACT right way, or there are gaps in the material which will cause problems. Being that you have to repeat a nearly identical process 4 times to complete EACH character, you can see what a pain in the *** this could be.

The second problem occured simultaneously with the first, in that sometimes when you pressed the mash button, the top piece wouldn't release. So you had to press over and over and over. In the creation of each monster, a top piece must be released 8 different times....by the time I did the last monster, I was pressing the pieces into the mold with my hand, it was easier and more precise.

To make the hands and feet, you have to thread a cord through tiny holes and assemble knots to keep them from falling off (for the feet especially I recommend a double know as the holes are a little larger).

There are also several more steps, but you get the idea that this is a very detailed, precise, specific process that requires infinite patience.

My 9 year old crafty daughter needed help with the first doll and was able to do the other two alone. She loved it but once the dolls are made, that's it, throw the rest away. I wish they would make some refill kits so you could keep making more dolls.

The Monster High monster making kit was a fun challenge for my 9 yo and her dad. The instructions are pretty straightforward. There were issues, such as a piece disappearing or something would have to be dismantled and reset, they were minute and quickly fixed. The one problem I find with this whole kit is that there seem to be no refills. Once the three dolls are assembled, you still have a pretty decent tool set that has potential to create more monsters, if only Mattel had the foresight to create refill packs.

I am super crafty as is my 11 year old daughter that this was purchased for. It took us an hour to put together one doll (with gripes and groans the whole time). The pieces are very hard to put together, there was no way she would be able to do this alone-let alone a 7 year old as the box states this can be for. The tools are useless--we had better luck pushing it together with our fingers and using a hot glue gun to secure the pieces together. The fabric is not cut big enought for the heads/bodies and the stickers for the faces do not stick well to the felt faces.

All in all--I should have truly 'listened' to previous reviewers that cautioned buyers about this product--even thought I am an avid crafter and put together tons of things with my children this was a hard task. We put together the dolls--hung them for 'pretty' as my daughter said and tossed the tools.

Monster High has fabulous dolls and accessories---this unfortunately is not one of them.

As others have noted, it does not go together well at all. Pieces have to be perfectly put together - but the machine does not make it easy to do that. Even for my 9 year old, it was impossible to get together well and we ended up arguing and having a miserable time.

I wish I had never bought this piece of crap.

My grand daughter is seven and got this for Christmas. We were so excited to do this. You have to line up the fabric perfect,do it over and over, then we put it together wrong and quit! No fun at all.I do all sorts of crafty things but this was not fun. The first reveiw explains it great! Buyer Beware!!!!!

Although this seems like a cute idea and the dolls are somewhat cute for the short amount of time you can keep them together it's definitely not worth the price or hassle. As someone else mentioned in a previous review you will probably be assembling the dolls yourself as the material needs to be squarely centered on the mold or it creates gaps. YAAAYYY!! Dolls are somewhat successfully assembled now here comes the fun part for the kids creating the face, again this is a MAJOR FAIL as the eyes and mouth are stickers which are supposed to stick to the face but end up just falling off, eventually we gave up on this and just used some elmers glue to try getting them to stick, as of right now they're staying on but who knows how long it will last.

Overall the quality of this product is really horrible and I would not recommend wasting money on it.

The idea of this toy is great, my daughter thought it would be fun, and so did I. Well first off, there are NO written instructions, only photos-not a good idea. This is very difficult for an 8 yr old, so my son who is 19 and a student in college came over to help my daughter when he heard her frustration, and it was met with the same frustrations by him! The material for the doll faces does not fit- it is too small, so you can never even make the dolls material for head stay on. The whole thing is much too complex for any child under 13, and will lead to both parent and child being frustrated. We were unable to make ANY dolls successfully. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$ on this. We WILL be returning this item due to its inability to work properly or as stated.
