The Cafe playset set could not be more perfect to accompany the new Scaris Monster High dolls. The set consists of four main pieces, all brightly colored and made to look like art nouveau wrought iron. The single magenta chair has a great seat detail that looks like a skull, there is a turquoise double seat, a purple table with an umbrella cover that has tiny skull "lights", and a pink and black espresso cart. The cart holds an espresso maker and pastry display stand, and comes with several snack and beverage accessories.

For Play:
I think the set gets a big gold star for just being fun and cool.

There was minimal assembly with this playset - a bat that fits onto the top of the cart, the umbrella snaps onto the table, the double seat easily snaps together and the skull lights hang from the umbrella. I did check to see how the dolls fit into the chairs, and they sit nicely with legs extended out in front of them, but do not sit flat with knees bent and feet under the seats.

There are several small accessories - a cappuccino cup, water bottle, flower vase and treats that will probably be misplaced by younger children. The other small parts are the (8) skull lights on the umbrella, but they stay in place quite well and did not fall off/out when I turned the table upside down.

One potential weak area on the set are the wheels on the cart, which could come off if handled roughly.

For Collectors:
My favorite thing about the Scaris Cafe playset is that the seating is the perfect way to display my Scaris basic dolls (Ghoulia, Draculaura, Abbey) as the basic dolls do not come with doll stands. Please note: you will have to work on your poses to get them to sit without their underwear showing - they are all wearing mini dresses. There is so much detail on all of the pieces, tiny skulls and cobwebs everywhere. This set is so unique and well themed - a great addition to a Monster High collection.

This is one of those products that my daughter tore open immediately, and it has seen heavy rotation in our home's playing cycle over the past week. It's a great tie-in with the new Scaris film that the kids just watched recently, and it's reinvigorated Monster High play in our house. A brief bit about the categories here:

Fun - The cafe scores well in this category. As I mentioned, the whole popularity of Monster High has jumped with the introduction of this product. It gives the characters something more to do, and adds to the storytelling element for my girls. The Parisian setting (for those who watch the film) is something different for them to consider.

Education - I don't think the kids are learning a huge amount from this, perhaps other than what it might be like to run a cafe or food cart, or how to lounge around. Not something I'd recommend if learning is the main concern with a purchase.

Durability - The parts are fairly well-constructed, although not really enough to justify the price tag. Some of the smaller pieces (eg. the snack holders) are likely to be lost, which is always the downside of smaller accessories.

Overall, I'd say this is an excellent product that will no doubt appeal to all fans of the Monster High franchise. The product itself likely isn't enough to justify the cost, but it's more than worth it when you see how much it adds to the play experience.

My niece, who is almost six, fell in love with the monster high series about two years ago. When she saw this cafe cart, she was so happy she squealed in delight and couldn't stop playing with it for hours!!

make things that are already pieced together. tired of missing pieces and things falling apart. my daughter really REALLY has to want something for me to purchase any of the monster high toys....i might as well take 20 dollar bills and throw them out the window for the short amount of time that these toys last

My girls ages 11 & 13 have been into Monster High dolls since they first came out so they have been playing with them for years. I have to say the more Mattel puts out new dolls and accessories, the more they still want them. The Scaris cafe is one of the Monster High items they wanted and is nice set to play with. 2 dolls can fit on the bench seat and 1 on the chair.Everything pretty much comes already assembled except the bench seat just has to be snapped into place and there are hanging plastic skulls for the umbrella to the table that resemble lighting. The picture here on amazon is pretty accurate except it looks as if the table is almost a royal blue and the table is really a nice deep purple color. What you can't see from the picture is the back of the cart has 2 open shelves where items can be placed in it for storage. All the pieces seem pretty sturdy and well made. The cart is moveable, the wheels are working, and it seems pretty easy to wheel the cart while the items on top still stay in place. The cart it 12" high if you measure to the top of the bat and about 11" at the peak of the top of it and the base of the cart is about 6" wide. It comes with a 2 cup cappuccino maker and a little mug, it also has 3 different types of ghoulish pastries, a goblet, a little vase for the table, a little eiffel tower treat. I think any kid into Monster High would love this set. My girls paired it up next to the Monster high Coffin Bean playset, which is also another nice set to play with. I would reccommend this product to anyone who loves Monster High. The reason for the 4 stars for educational, ok it's Monster High it is of course more for playing with then for learning, but having a little one who recieved Early Intervention, you could use some of it for educating, requesting for them to put the dolls on the chair, off the chair, at the table, and requesting items and so on. All and All it is fun.
