Monster-sized Tenderness,
By Andy J. Smith "AndyJSmithillustration.com -- ... (North Shore, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monster Hug! (Hardcover)
Primal and raw, like a monster should be, but also tender and to the point, like a hug. David Ezra Stein imparts straightforward but vivid text and lively, just rough-enough illustrations a child can grasp and identify. 'Monster Hug' recounts the day in the life of a monster by being full of monster sized humor and action and also childlike vulnerability. A sweet book!

Monstrously Fun,
By ScarlattiEGB "ScarlattiEGB" (Fargo, ND USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monster Hug! (Hardcover)
I got this book for my 14-month-old son since he loves Stein's "Pouch!" book a lot. "Monster Hug" also became a big hit, and he would bring us this book to read to him again and again. It reads a bit like a comic book: each page or spread is one illustration with a title, like "Monster Toss," and the monsters have speech tags or sound effects next to them. This book is best read with a sense of fun so you can exercise your monster voices and sound effects. We made a game of "Monster Toss" inspired by this book, and we also get "Monster Hugs" from our little monster. This book was good for us!

Brilliant,

Brilliant. The fun, short text and vibrant illustrations grab my daughter's attention every single time we read this book to her. Our family LOVES this book! My husband especially likes it because of the voice he can do for the monster characters.
